“Well,” Cody’s father said as he hung up the phone. “What did he say?”
Cody sat down at the dining room table in the big farmhouse, aware of the stares from his family. Mom, Dad, even his little sister Angie. “Well, there’s god news and bad news.” He swallowed. “They’re offering me a roster spot. As a preferred walk-on. And if things work out, probably a full ride.”
His mother smiled. “That sounds like pretty darn good news to me, Cody. So what’s the bad news?”
“My grades. Coach says they really like my arm, but they don’t really like the looks of my transcript. If I can’t get better grades before graduation, they’ll pull the offer.”
