Hoessein and his company hurry through the sand basin, and for nearly the whole day, they move forward in the heat, hardly stopping at all. Sometimes they have short rest periods because the horses and camels become thirsty. Now and then, Podolski and Fritz Mundt would receive a little bit of water, just enough to quench their worst thirst, and every time they drank, they felt new strength returning to their bodies. The Arab keeps them apart, but every time Hoessein approaches Fritz and Podolski, he asks the same question again. “Are we still moving in the right direction?” Every time they give him the same answer, as yes, they are still moving in the direction of the small oasis where the Sabre of Dutra is waiting. Both of them are speaking the truth, as they know it would be pointless
