Crow
“You can’t be in here….” The woman turned from her place leaning over the high hospital bed . She had said the words without even really looking at me. And her mouth opened in a little O when she finally did.
I knew what she saw. What they all saw. But there was none of the instant lust that I was expecting. Instead her lips curled into a smile that was more grimace than grin.
“I’m….”
She didn’t let me finish. “I don’t care who you are, how good a friend you are to his mum. He needs rest and …..”
“It’s ok Janice.” A warm body pushed past me as someone else entered the room. And my senses were overwhelmed by the scent of her perfume. Not that it was over powering. It wasn’t. It was sweet but not cloying. Subtle and genuine. “He’s the boys father.” She headed towards the bed and for a second I forgot where I was, totally entranced by the way her blue uniform cupped her round ass. “Nice to see you again Mr Franks.”
My eyes locked on her face. The rosy cheeks with a sprinkling of freckles, the full mouth shining with pink gloss.
Those damn pig tails.
“Crow.” I growled it at her, louder than I wanted too but she didn’t look away and her smile didn’t falter.
“Crow.” She repeated softly , and for a second I thought she was going to roll her eyes at me. She didn’t. “You didn’t need to rush down here , Ty is asleep.”
Maybe if she had told me that on the phone I wouldn’t have but she hadn’t. Who was I kidding I would have come down anyway. I needed to see with my own eyes that he was ok.
Stepping into the room further I let myself look at him. He didn’t look too bad, there was no visible marks on his face that I could see. But the blankets could have been hiding a lot.
A broken leg.
That’s what she had said.
He had fallen down the stairs and broken his leg. And his mother had been too out of it to even notice.
Anger bubbled up inside of me.
She wasn’t getting him back. Not now and not ever. I didn’t care what the courts said. He was my child and he had been hurt and alone. And no one had been there to help him.
“How’s he doing?” I drew closer to the bed and my hand went out instinctively to smooth back the dark hair that plastered his forehead.
My eyes met hers over his bedside.
Chloe.
That’s what she had called herself.
Chloe in her dark blue nurses outfit and pigtails smiling at me with those glossy blow job lips.
I was going to hell even thinking it over the bed of my injured son but I wanted her lips wrapped around me.
“He’s fine, brave and strong like his daddy .”
Was she flirting with me? It sounded like it but maybe that was just my wishful thinking.
“He’s just asleep. You don’t have to look so worried.” Her hand reached across the bed but she didn’t touch me. Instead her hand hovered in the space between us. Before she let it drop back to her side with a sigh.
“When will he wake up?”
Her shrug made her breasts push against the front of her nurses uniform and my eyes went to them instinctively.
Yeah, I was definitely going to hell. Not that she seemed to even notice me ogling at her. Which wasn’t surprising. A woman with the curves she had would’ve been used to men panting after her.
“He’s had a rough couple of days and the pain killers would have made him even more sleepy. It’s best he gets some sleep.” I watched as she mirrored my movements and smoothed back his hair. It was such a nature movement on her.
“Ok.” I didn’t move and neither did she. For several long seconds we just stood there. On either side of Tys bed. Each lost to our own thoughts.
“Well I’m officially off the clock now so I’m going to head home.” She broke the spell with another smile .
Jesus I had never seen someone smile as much as she did. It seemed to be permanently fixed to her face. A stark contrast to the scowl that was usually one mine. “I just wanted to make sure everything was ok here?”
“You’re going?”
“I don’t even work on this ward Crow. I just popped up to make sure Ty was ok, and you of course.” A blush crept up her cheeks and I had no idea why.
“Thank you for calling me Chloe.”
“It was the least I could do Crow.” She paused at the doorway. Her smile slipping slightly. “Have you been drinking?”
“Yeah why?”
“That’s not going to look good when the social worker gets here to talk to you Crow. How much have you had?” Her blonde brows were pinched together. I should have been pissed that she was talking to me like I was a child and she was my mother but all I felt was an instant surge of lust.
She was hot as hell.
“I was at a wedding when you called. I’ve had a drink but I am not drunk.” Grinning at her I crossed my fingers over my heart. “I promise.”
She stifled a giggle with her hand. “I’ll take your word for it but I suggest several large coffees before you talk to anyone else. Want me to show you where the cafeteria is?”
I met her smile with one of my own. “That would be great but only if you will join me?”
The blush that had started flared into life and she ducked her head slightly. “I shouldn’t.. it’s not really good to go for coffee with a patient.”
“I’m not your patient and you aren’t on the clock. One coffee Chloe. It’s the least I can do to say thank you for phoning me and letting me know what happened.”
I didn’t break eye contact. It was making her feel uncomfortable but I needed to see her reaction.
Her tongue darted out. Wetting her lips . Once and twice and then she nodded. “One coffee.”
I grinned at her.
One coffee.
Yeah right.
