17 It was some time before I lifted my head again. My sobs had slowed, and finally stopped, and I had lain on the soft earth, almost asleep – feeling so exhausted after all that swimming, walking, and then from crying so much. There’d been the occasional creepy crawly making its way along my arm or leg, and I’d freaked out and flicked them off quickly without even looking at them. I didn’t want to know what they were. I shuddered just thinking about them. I felt the tickle of something crawling on my hand and quickly looked down. A large, furry spider was making its way across the back of my hand. I lifted my hand and shook it off like a crazy woman as my hearts felt like they were going to jump out of my chest. I leapt to my feet and moved away from the place I’d been laying. I didn’t k
