The mini-sub was positioned beside a reef of beautifully coloured coral south of the little island we’d landed on in a small cloaked ship, and I was waiting in the airlock with two fully suited divers: Rori and Shandar.
The water rushed in around us in swirls until the chamber was fully flooded. I was wearing a wetsuit with knee-length leggings and had the camera strapped to my shoulder. Because I had no mask and therefore no microphone, they’d given me a small writing tablet and pen so I could still communicate with the sub. All I had to do was write on the tablet and they could read it on a screen on the sub’s communication console. To answer, they’d simply type their messages back to the tablet.
