I groaned. Oh, it just never ends!
I took some deep breaths to try to calm down as the pain receded a little. I tried several times to pull my foot out. I could see I wasn’t going to get anywhere by pulling, so I sat down carefully on one of the roots and tried to wriggle it free. It didn’t help. It only caused more pain. It wouldn’t budge. Why did it have to be the left foot again?
I moved my toes and my foot slipped a little in the boot. Maybe I could get somewhere if I slipped it out of the boot. I tried again and my foot came out, minus the boot. Yes!
I pulled the empty boot free and put it back on.
When I stood up, pain shot up the side of my leg from my ankle, which made me cry out, but I headed up the hill to the caves, looking to see if there was any movement. They probably
