Dad’s text had caused me to go pale. Davis was at a doctor’s appointment that Carter took him to. I was sitting at Davis’ house alone and utterly frightened at the prospect of Dad coming for me. My fingers hovered over my phone, deciding whether to text dad back when the front door opened. I jumped, frightened that it was him and he had found me. My nerves were shot and adrenaline was pumping through me like a raging river, but I was ready to attack whoever crossed the threshold. I met her concerned green eyes as she stepped through, feeling myself slump with exhaustion as the sudden rush of adrenaline caused me to crash.
