Chapter Six Susanna loved Florida—the palm trees, the beaches, Disney World—except around Christmas time. She found it depressing that it was the middle of December, and it was still eighty-two degrees in the shade. She was sitting on a beach towel, her toes in the sand, as Caiden paddled out into the Atlantic hoping to catch some time out on his surfboard. The only sign it was winter at all was the fact that a wet suit wrapped Caiden’s usually richly tanned flesh. While the Florida air was still bringing a sheen of sweat to her skimpily clad body, the Atlantic Ocean was freezing. She was clueless how a thin piece of fabric could keep anyone from developing hypothermia, but he never missed a chance to surf, no matter the weather condition or temperature of the water.
