Grey was panicking.
Jem was his mate.
How was that even possible?
He was an alpha. Alpha's could not have another alpha as their mate.
That was not how it worked.
Was it?
No, it wasn't.
Alphas mated with Omegas.
Omegas mated with Alphas.
Betas were with Betas.
That's how it was. That was the system. So, what Grey wanted to know was why his wolf would lose it around Jem. He couldn't be his mate. He wasn't supposed to be his mate. He wasn't allowed to be his mate. And why couldn't he get in contact with Jem's wolf? His wolf wasn't there.
If Grey told his father he had found his male mate and alpha, he would, without a doubt, make him reject Jem, just like he would be abandoning his own on the full moon. Could Grey even reject Jem when he didn't know he was his mate? Honestly, he didn't even want to leave him. He didn't want to reject Jem. He wanted to throw up. He didn't want to reject Jem. He couldn't.
He liked Jem, don’t get him wrong, but he still found Jem infuriating. But he still liked Jem. Not romantically. He had known him for a week, but still. He knew the more he got to know him, the more feelings would grow.
After a week, simply a week, that was seven days, Grey had strong emotions towards him, and this had never happened with anyone.
Grey found being around Jem to be suffocating. Wolf hated not having him. But he couldn't claim Jem, and, according to his siblings, his wolf was there, but just dormant, if that was even the word. His wolf didn't get in contact with Jem. Not like everyone else did. Even on the new moon, he wouldn't turn. He couldn't.
It was like he was sleeping. Constantly.
Not even his siblings knew why. Grey knew the only person who knew why Jem's wolf was dormant was Jem.
From what they knew, Jem had his wolf, and they communicated as everyone else did, but Jem did something. Something that his wolf didn't agree with, and it wasn't a little argument either. It was a major one. And its consequences ended up with his wolf becoming dormant and inactive. He did have his powers. He could hear somewhat better than a human but not as well as a werewolf. However, he couldn't change his eyes. He couldn't turn on the moon.
Grey sighed as he looked over at him; he was smiling in his sleep, drooling and sleep-talking, and part of him wanted to wipe away his drool. He looked, he looked terrific. He looked soft and cute, and Grey wanted to f*****g hold him. He was his mate. He was an alpha, and he was his mate. And he didn't even know.
‘I SAY WE GET HIM. TAKE HIM. HE'S OURS.’
’Not this again, Wolf. Calm down, please.’ Grey sighed.
Wolf's over-eagerness was giving him a headache. He liked, no, like wasn't quite the word. He didn't know the word, but Jem was Jem. And Jem was just, he didn't know, he confused him. And it irritated Grey because he hadn't even known him for long, but he had all these feelings and emotions towards him, and they all bloomed. And while they were like roses, they had their thorns too.
‘NO. MINE. LOOK. MINE!’
‘Yes. I'm aware. He's ours, okay. We'll keep an eye on him for now. But you cannot do anything spontaneous or anything that could cause him harm.’
‘But-‘
‘WOLF. Do not. Cause Jem any harm. At all. Am I clear?’
’Yes.’
’Good.’
Grey found the courage, walked over to Jem, and threw him off the bed. He snickered as Jem hit the ground with a loud thud, he ground as he rubbed his head and scowled at Grey a little. Grey gave him a small smile.
"Hey, get up. There's an assembly. You have five minutes. I'm leaving. Rosalyn will be here with Maya in a few minutes. You'll get Micah, and then you will come to the hall," Grey said. He wasn't even sure if Jem was listening, in all honesty. Grey didn’t think he was. He was pretty sure he was about to fall back asleep.
"Why can't I just go with you?" he groaned as he rubbed his eyes. "I don't want to deal with my sister's enthusiastic ass so early in the morning. I'd rather deal with you than her, and that's saying something."
"I'm leaving now. I need to get there before it all begins. And remember. Act human. Not everyone here knows, you know."
"Yeah, yeah. I've had the whole human act from Alexander," he said, and he seemed as if he was about to drift off to sleep again.
"Jem, awake!" Rosalyn screamed as she walked in. She had to throw their door open, didn't she? Wait, Grey had locked the door. Oh, don't tell him she broke their door.
"Hi, Grey," she said, looking over at him. "Oh, bye, Grey," she yelled as Grey grabbed his bag and headed to the door. He eyed it and groaned a little. She broke it. She broke their dorm door. Grey eyed it and sighed. He didn’t know what she did, but he was 80% sure she had also fixed it. Wow, he was confused.
"Bye. Make sure you lock the door before you leave, Jem."
"Don't tell me what to do," Jem grumbled, half awake. Grey rolled his eyes at his childish behaviour.
"I'll see you guys in a bit. Don't be late," he said, and the others nodded and left.
‘You left him,’ Wolf whined, and Grey rolled his eyes.
’Wolf. Listen to me. Jem doesn't know. He's dormant; you know that. You haven't even been in contact with his wolf. Okay, you know that the others said his wolf was dormant. We can't do anything. Even if I wanted to, I don't because he doesn't know. We're not forcing anything on him.’
‘But-’
‘No.’
’He's ours. Ours and only ours,’ Wolf hissed, and Grey made a slight noise in his throat.
‘Yes, I'm aware of this. Now shush and let me work.’
‘Will you ever tell him?’ Wolf asked after a while, and Grey sighed.
’No, I'm not going to be telling him.’
‘He's not going to reject you because of what happened, you know.’
‘I know,’ Grey lied.
‘Liar. I know you think you're dirty.’
Grey exhaled, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He did not want to get into this early in the morning, so he ignored his wolf, but one thought kept swirling around in his mind. He didn’t think he was dirty. He knew he was. And that was something he had gotten used to. No matter how much he scrubbed in the shower or how much he kept his body clean. He would always be dirty. And there was nothing anyone could ever do to get him clean again.
