Maddox was aware of how awkward the atmosphere at the dining table was. He was sitting across from Hunter, Citrus beside him and Esme beside Hunter. The large room was laced in silence as they continued eating, Hunter had initially rejected the idea of Citrus staying in his home, but Esme had convinced him, which Maddox had been grateful for. She had smiled at him, saying it was the least she could have done, considering Hunter was his mate, even if he refused to accept it. Maddox’s phone buzzed, and all eyes landed on him. He tried to sink further into the dark dining table chair. He refused to check his phone, simply looking around the room instead. He was unaware that a room like this existed in Hunter’s home, as they had never eaten together. But Esme had said the four should at leas
