MITCH LEFT WORK in desperate need of a shower and still having four hours of work left on the transmission that would help him pay his rent that month. All day long, he fought the urge to reach out to Karla, asking her again to join him for dinner. It would only play into her way of thinking, make her feel like she had the upper hand in their relationship, if what they had could be called a relationship. She needed to come to him if what he hoped for was ever going to come to pass. She needed to realize not all relationships were the same.
