Mother.
We are in big trouble, especially my brother and his little family.
Mother was standing on the doorstep. What incredible timing! Arya and his brother became paled to see their mother. With a proud and confident aura. Her eyes were cold. She knew her children had done something unforgivable. Mother's instincts, might I add. She looked like she was ready to punish them.
What about Kathy and little Chris? Kathy's head bowed down. And about little Chris. Chris was looking back and forth. From his side to his grandmother's side, and then back to his side. He sensed the tension of the air. He was the mature one among us. He proved it.
He approached in baby steps to his grandma and said shyly, "Hello, Grandma, I'm Chris."
Yara Montez John, staring at the kid thoroughly, then looked back to her son and his girlfriend, Kathy. Yara knew Kathy, aware of the relationship between her son and Kathy. She looked at the couple and gave a bone-chilling glare. She eyed over to her daughter and observed new piercing holes on her face.
She gave her daughter a disapproving look and stared down at her first grandson, whose existence she was unaware of for more than two years. She bent down and looked over her grandson's face in admiration. She ran her fingers through his dark hair, which he gets from Kathy, Chris's mother.
"Are you hungry, child?" Yara asked her grandson, affectionately.
In response, she got a toothy grin from him. He said, "Yes, grandma."
"Alright, let's enter the house, and I will make delicious foods only for you." She said and scooped him in her arms and entered her home, living the three rascals behind. The three had a sour look on their faces and entered their home silently. Yara was angry and disappointed. She completely ignored the rest of the three throughout the whole evening.
At night, Kathy came out of their room after putting Chris on the bed. The two siblings decided to talk to their mother at night at her study. Kathy also went with the siblings. Arya knocked on the door. No reply from the other side. She repeated the process. They heard a faint voice said, come in. The three entered and stood in front of Yara's desk. She started at the three for a while. She commanded, "Speak."
Ryan said with sadness, "It's started with a huge misunderstanding."
Kathy said meekly, "I misjudged him and left."
Ryan spoke, "I, fortunately, met her in Las Angeles in a cafe after three years."
Kathy stated, "That's how he came to know about Chris. I refused him to meet his son."
Kathy was controlling her whimpers, tears rolling down her eyes. She wiped her tears harshly with the back of her left hand. Arya was looking back and forth between the couple and her mother.
Ryan said looking at his sister, "I came back to Canada after someday and told everything to Ray."
Arya said with a huff, "Disheveled. It is the one way I could describe him. I suggested going back to LA and to clear the misunderstanding." He didn't look any less than a zombie to her that day.
Ryan nodded and said firmly, "We did, and now we are here. Kathy and I decided to make a family of our own. I want it, mother. I want them."
Kathy nodded in agreement and said, "Our son needs us in his life. He will get everything he deserves."
Yara, the army officer, staring at her family members skeptically. She was reading their mind. She stated coldly after some time, "It's good to see you two got your senses back. It's about time. You two disappointed me. You are lucky for him to be well-mannered and more mature than you two. Love him, cherish him. Don't ever make him cry because of your childish reason. Always prefer talking before taking any drastic steps."
"I am sorry, Mrs. John. I will always remember." Kathy promised.
Ryan said apologetically, "I am sorry, mother, for my negligence."
Yara accepted their apology and said, "You may go now, and Arya. Stay."
Arya stayed rooted in her place. Her mother stood up from her chair and went to take a seat on a couch in her study. She motioned her daughter to take a seat beside her. Arya followed her mother's instructions.
Yara was looking over her daughter from head to toe. She pursed her lips in a thin line.
"I heard everything about you. You still didn't change.", She said to her daughter in distaste.
Arya stiffly nodded. "I don't intend to change. Not for now."
Yara said with a sigh, "You are not going to change your mind."
Arya didn't say anything. It was a statement.
"I have no choice, only to walk forward." She stated.
"It is not going to be easy. In this game, you may lose your beloved one." Yara pointed out.
"I ain't let anyone hurt what's mine, not until I am dead, not this time. I will be there like a shadow. You have my words." Arya promised her mother.
"When will you ever stop, stop hurting yourself?" Yara said, staring over inks, piercings, and fight bruises on her daughter's skin.
Like Arya's best friends, her mother also knew what happened with Arya ten years back. That incident changed Arya's life. She started self-loathing herself.
"The day when I am eventually able to return them the same favor," Arya said coldly with plastering an evil smile.
Yara shook her head and said, "Can't you just let that go?" Yara wanted her daughter to forget her past and move on, but she knew it was not possible anymore. Everything is ready. Her daughter and her gang are going to leave for their mission soon.
"People say, 'The ax forgets, but the tree remembers.'. I believe in it.", Arya knew she couldn't look back. She will hold her ground until her last breath.
Yara said, "It was my fault. If only I -"
Arya cut her off and said in a blank tone, "It was never your fault, mother. You cut all your ties with them. You chose the right path and father. Now, it is my game. I can't afford to lose."
Yara held her daughter's hand and squeezed it firmly. "Your brother doesn't know them."
"He better stay out of it. He has to look after his family. My nephew deserves to have a great troublesome future." Arya said in admiration. She would do anything to keep her brother's family safe.
Yara nodded and said, "I have to go for my last mission. I am staying for one week here."
Arya professed, "I am also moving out next week. Let's enjoy the family reunion. It's been too long we are on the same roof again."
"Only except one," Yara stated, looking at his late husband and her children's father's portrait in her study. She smiled. Arya looked in the direction. She misses her father but never voiced that out to anyone.
"Anyway, how about your racing? Are you going to continue it to where you are heading?" Yara asked.
Arya nodded and said wryly, "That's the only way I am going to earn money. And it also helps me to keep my sanity in check. I am going to take my motorbike with me. Wherever I go, he will go with me,"
Yara chuckled while patting her daughter's back. She said, "You are my Deadly Princess."
"Let's go. It's getting late. I need to wake up early to make food for my dear family.", Yara stated with admiration.
They both stood up and went to open the door. Yara turned and held her daughter's hand firmly.
"Don't forget the lessons which you learned from your parents. Don't break the rules for whatever situation you are going to face in the future. Promise me you will stop torturing yourself when things ended. I want your words, Arya Montez John." Her mother reminded her of the pledge she took at an early age. Arya said stiffly, "I, Arya Montez John, promise you that I will always remember your lessons, follow my rules and lead a healthy life after my mission." Arya took her oath in front of her mother.
Yara nodded and walked away from her study to her bedroom.
Arya locked the study and went to the balcony. She was staring at the stars and remembering her old days. He was always there for her. He was the one who taught her fighting. He used to boost her confidence whenever she was on the verge of losing her confidence.
Her friend, her savior, her partner of crime, he was her everything, until ten years ago. The horrible day for her, she still couldn't able to forget that night. She lost him. They snatched him away from her. They brutally killed him to break her wings and make her weak and insecure. She was burning, staving for blood, couldn't wait to return their favor with interest.
Arya closed her eyes and exhaled. She looked at the sky to a particular star. She muttered, "I know, you are looking at me from there. Call me crazy, but I know which star belongs to you. I wanted to go to the graveyard for the last time before I head back to New York to start my mission, the mission of revenge. But I can't. I will go there, wearing your favorite white-colored dress with white roses. That day I will cry, cry my heart out. I didn't let fell a tear from my eyes for once. I feared what if it put out the fire within me before igniting. I am not going to stop, Elle. They will pay, I will make sure of it. Your soul will get peace. Bless me, Elle. Your blessings mean a lot to me. Love you, Eleanor. Please be there for me always,"
Arya closed her room's french door and drifted into sleep. She was happy. Her home was full of life. She didn't have to live alone for one week. She called her best friends, Ethan and Zack, to come home. S
he introduced her beloved nephew to her friends the next morning. Ryder and Kathy decided to get married in the church after two days. And they did, Kathy became an official member of John's family. Little Chris was happy for being one of the witnesses of his parents' wedding.
He considered himself a lucky one. He was a pure soul. She will keep that in that way no matter how difficult the time they face later. The evil ones will die, and the pure souls will survive in the end.
She will make it possible. And that's why she is leaving for her mission, a mission where lots of people will lose their life, mainly the evil people.
The day came, Ryder and his family went to London for work. Ryder worked there. Kathy had to compromise and decided to open her new art gallery in London. The painter decided to shift her art collections from Los Angeles to London with them. Chris was sad to know he couldn't see his grandma, aunt, and two uncles in London. They promised to talk every day at night. He understood and agreed momentarily. Yara, the military officer, also left home for the second last mission of her career before retirement. She assumed. Yara blessed her daughter and told her to take care of her.
Now there only left Arya. Her friends helped her to pack her belongings.
Two days later, Arya was standing at the entrance of the airport. Her friends came to see her before she heads back to New York. She boarded her flight to New York. When her flight flew over Canada, she closed her eyes and told herself, "I am coming to ruin your life. Your good days are about to end."
