Regional Command of the Carabinieri, RomeThe Carabinieri on guard jumped from their chairs when they saw four cars from the Vatican Gendarmerie arrive at full speed, complete with flashing lights and sirens. They immediately opened the electric gate, convinced that that convoy would have slipped into the inner courtyard of the building without even stopping at the gate. Immediately after, a swarm of soldiers rushed into the courtyard to understand what was happening and to see the infamous body in action. Eight gendarmes got out of the cars and stood around one of their armored vehicles with tinted windows. Everyone thought that there was a Cardinal or even the Pope inside, without reflecting that the Pontiff would move with an entire army, not with a simple escort.
