Chapter 1
As I strained against the ropes that bound my wrists, a sharp, biting pain shot through my limbs. The coarse fibers dug mercilessly into my skin, leaving angry red marks in their wake. The bindings, tight and unforgiving, restricted my movement and further intensified the throbbing ache that already plagued me.
With every ounce of strength, I fought against the restraints that held me captive. The pain in my wrists served as a cruel reminder of my vulnerability, but it also fueled my determination to break free from this nightmarish predicament. I couldn't succumb to the helplessness that threatened to overwhelm me—I had to find a way out.
I tried to recall the events leading up to my confinement. Amidst the haze of confusion, a flicker of memory emerged—I had been sipping on a lemonade drink at the anniversary party. The taste had been off, unusual, and I couldn't shake the nagging suspicion that it had been spiked with something sinister. The realization sent shivers down my spine, confirming my fears that I had fallen victim to foul play.
The puzzle pieces started to align in my mind, even as the pain and disorientation persisted. Someone had targeted me, ensnaring me in this web of darkness and torment. But who? And for what purpose?
I racked my brain, desperately searching for a face, a name, or even a hint of animosity from someone who might harbor ill intentions towards me. Yet, as I retraced the paths of my relationships and encounters, I found no enemies lurking in the shadows. My heart had been filled with love and compassion, my interactions marked by kindness and goodwill. I couldn't fathom who would orchestrate such a malevolent act against me.
I had always been a devoted Luna to my pack as the wife of Alpha Xavier. Our love was built on a foundation of trust and unity, and our bond was admired by all who knew us. The thought that someone would seek to harm me, to disrupt the harmony we had cultivated, seemed inconceivable.
The knowledge that I had been targeted shattered the illusion of safety that had enveloped me. It was a betrayal of the trust we had built, not only between Xavier and me, but within the pack as well. We had always been vigilant, protecting our members from external threats, but now I found myself ensnared in a perilous situation, a pawn in a game I never asked to be a part of.
No matter the depths of despair I found myself in, I knew that Xavier would not rest until he had found me. He would overcome any obstacle to bring me back into his arms.
As I clung to the dwindling embers of hope, memories of our first encounter flickered in my mind, providing a brief respite from the current torment. It happened on a moonlit night, beneath the towering canopy of ancient trees that whispered secrets to the night breeze. I had been wandering through the woods, seeking solace in the peaceful embrace of nature. Little did I know that fate had a different plan in store for me. As I ventured deeper into the woods, I stumbled upon a clearing bathed in the ethereal glow of the moon. And there, standing amidst the dappled moonlight, was Xavier. Our eyes met, and in that instant, the world around us faded into insignificance. It was as if time itself had paused, allowing our souls to recognize each other as true mates.
Xavier's love for me knew no bounds. He was my pillar of strength, always there to lend a supportive hand or offer words of wisdom. He cherished and respected me, valuing my opinion and treating me as an equal partner in our shared journey.
Perhaps it wasn't a stranger who had orchestrated my kidnapping, but rather one of Xavier's enemies seeking to exact revenge upon him. Xavier, as the Alpha of our pack, had faced numerous challenges throughout his leadership. His commitment to justice and protection had garnered respect from many, but it had also sown seeds of resentment among those who sought to undermine his authority. While I had always stood by his side, offering my support and unwavering love, it seemed that someone had taken advantage of our union to strike at him through me.
Xavier possessed a formidable presence, both physically and emotionally. He had faced countless challenges as the Alpha. I knew that his love for me would ignite a fire within him, driving him to mobilize the pack, gather intelligence, and leave no stone unturned in his search for me.
In my heart, I could already hear the distant echoes of his voice, reassuring me that he would find me, that he would bring me back into his protective embrace.
I reminded myself of the countless times Xavier had demonstrated his resourcefulness and strategic prowess. His enemies had often underestimated him, and I had no doubt they would soon realize the magnitude of their mistake.
As the agonizing moments dragged on, a faint sound broke through the suffocating silence—a distant echo of footsteps resonating against the wooden floor. My heart skipped a beat, and a mix of anticipation and trepidation coursed through my veins. Each footfall grew closer, reverberating with an eerie rhythm that seemed to synchronize with the pounding of my own heart.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, its rusty hinges protesting against the intrusion. A sliver of dim light sliced through the darkness, casting elongated shadows across the room. And there, stepping into the threshold, stood a man- he was slim and tall, his dirty blonde hair falling across his forehead. His piercing green eyes scanned the room, and I could sense an air of intimidation emanating from him.
As the man entered the room, his steps purposeful and deliberate, his gaze locked onto mine. His eyes, like shards of emerald, held a cold and calculating intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. The corners of his lips curled into a sinister smile, revealing a glimmer of malevolence beneath his facade of calm.
Despite the fear that threatened to consume me, I refused to allow him to see any trace of weakness or vulnerability in my eyes. I squared my shoulders and met his gaze with a defiant stare, silently challenging him.
He moved closer, his footsteps echoing in the silence, each sound amplifying the tension that hung heavily in the air. The dim light cast eerie shadows across his face, accentuating the sharp angles of his features.
His voice, when he finally spoke, was smooth and laced with a hint of mockery. "Well, well, well," he said. "Look who we have here. It seems our little Luna has awakened from her slumber. How delightful."
"Who are you? What do you want from me?"
"Who I am is of little importance," the man replied, his voice dripping with a chilling arrogance. "But rest assured, my presence here serves a purpose. You will have all your questions answered soon enough. The master will be here shortly."
"You've made a grave mistake," I replied, my voice steady despite the turmoil within. "Xavier will find me, and you will answer for your actions."
The man's amusement faded for a moment, replaced by a flicker of annoyance. He took another step closer, his eyes narrowing as he regarded me with a mix of frustration and curiosity.
"We shall see, Luna. We shall see," he murmured, his voice laced with a veiled threat. He suddenly straightened his posture and glanced over his shoulder. "I have matters to attend to," he declared dismissively. "But don't worry, Luna. You won't be alone for long."
He turned and strode towards the door. His hand grasped the tarnished doorstep and the door creaked on its hinges, protesting its movement as it swung shut, sealing me once again in darkness. I could hear his footsteps echoing faintly in the distance.
Left alone once again, I strained against my restraints, desperate to free myself from the bonds that held me captive. But the ropes remained unforgiving, tightening their grip as I struggled, taunting me with their unyielding strength.
I scanned my surroundings for any potential means of escape. The room was bare, save for the chair I was bound to and the dimly lit bulb dangling from the ceiling. There were no windows. It was as if the room had been meticulously crafted to serve as a prison, designed to keep me isolated and unaware of my location.
Fatigue gripped me, overpowering my body as I surrendered to the futile struggle against my bindings. The relentless throbbing in my head grew fiercer, erasing all awareness. Slowly, the weight of darkness descended, pulling me back into a restless sleep.
