Crimson streaked the starless night sky. The vast overhead was a sea of blood, blotted here and there by patches of bleeding clouds. The air smelled of death and fire. Before her was a long stretch of dry land leading to a burning city. Amy never thought that she'd be rushing to war riding a horse, for war and horses were two of her least favorite things in the world. Gilroy galloped as she slammed the reins for what seemed to her was the thousandth time. She stared at the dirt road as the humid wind rushed to her face. One moment Gideon was just right in front of her, and the next he was no longer in sight. He rode his horse so viciously fast, Amy was sure his stallion's hooves were burning.
