The night arrived quick. The moon already slid past the horizon as Amy stared through her window. She was lying on the bed, her red hair splayed across the mattress like a spreading wildfire.She had removed the bandage around her forehead with the help of Mathilde. The elderly court servant also gave her a vial of healing tonic. After downing all the contents in one swig, she already felt the dull throbbing on her forehead disappear. Her exhausted bones and aching muscles felt renewed, but not her emotions. She wished for the hundredth time that Mathilde had a tonic to cure the aches of the heart.
