RUSHWORTH MANSION, JANUARY, 21, 2018.
Her shivering body was enough to give him a boner, but he avoided making it quite obvious as he uttered, “That’s enough for today. You may as well rest now, my lovely wife.”
He then pulled her out of the bed, applied ointment on her bruises. Due to the inhumane treatement, Niti lied there listless while Xander unfastened the ropes.
“Yes, that’s how I want to see you, always lying beneath me and obedient. Now, don’t try to run ever again,” warned the husband with a scornful gaze. The thrashing had made her legs numb while the reall face of her husband made her lose her faith in love. At that moment, she couldn’t feel anything, neither physically nor emotionally. He then held her in his arms, and placed her body gently on the bed.
Accordingly, her mind drifted off to the past, and she cursed the tragic moment when Xander came into her life. It had been two months since she had been married, but she still remembered the day he talked to the head nun of her orphanage for marrying her.
TWO MONTHS AGO (FLASHBACK BEGINS)
Xander is the son of the founder of the Sunfloewr orphanage. He has been infatuated with Niti since the day he laid his eyes on her. Though the head nun was sceptical of his intentions, the other staff readily accepted as it heavily benefited the institution. Even the director was glad for the kind offer and accepted the proposal in a breath.
The head nun, Lorraine, was against it, and so she went to Niti to discuss it further. Niti, who too had secretly adored Xander for a long time was pretty giddy about it. Due to which, Lorraine had decided to guide her. The head nun sat beside Niti and asked, “What are your feelings on the subject, child?”
“Ma’am, there’s not really much that I can say since I’m obliged to do it anyway,” Niti mumbled slowly. The head nurse caressed her head gently and said in a soft voice, “Honey, we might be women but we’re not obliged to do stuff to please other people. If you feel that this relationship might hinder your academic growth or your progress in life, you shall deny it at once.”
“But, he is the son of the founder. They are the ones who donate a hefty amount to the orphange. My judgment would invariably affect this place I call home,” explained Niti while biting her lower lip.
The head nun gazed at her with apprehensive eyes and explained, "I can go through everything, but seeing you displeased with your life. You're like a daughter to me. If you're not into this, I will not let anyone force you into this. I have seen you grow right in front of my eyes. How can I let you sacrifice your life like this?"
"I am really happy that you regard me as your daughter, but to be honest with you, I can't really recall calling myself unhappy, ma'am. Futhermore, I have adored the man for a long time. Marrying someone I like and seeing it help other people does make me happy. Besides, he is a rich man. So, he might let me continue my studies. If he does, then it will be beneficial for both the orphanage and me. He seems like a nice guy as he is very religious too, ma'am, " explained Niti.
"Dear, do you like him? ... Marriage should be based on the mutual feeling of love, " The head nurse asked. Niti lowered her gaze and said with a silly smile on her face, "I can't say I don't, ma'am. He is an extremely charming and wonderful man. Even his manners are very pleasant. I still can't believe why he would like someone like me?"
The head nun patted Niti's head and said, "you know, I'm always with you, no matter what you decide, but be careful, dear. Looks can be deceiving. Furthermore, he has to go to London to complete his studies. So, they are insisting on having the marriage as soon as possible."
While Niti and Lorraine were engulfed in discussing the wedding, Xander knocked on the door of her room. Niti stood up and asked him to come inside while she maintained her gaze on the floor.
Niti wasn't much learned about the ways of the world as she had always lived in the care of the orphanage. She never had the chance to go out of those four walls.
"I'm sorry, head nun, but I actually did hear what you were talking about, " Xander expressed while grabbing one of his ears. Niti smiled to see him acting all silly. The head nun smiled as well and said, "Since you told me about it right away, there's not much I can complain about."
Xander closed the distance between them and confessed, "I might be an extremely fortuitous person when it comes to the matters of the money, but I couldn't even receive the caress of a mother since I was born. So, I thought marriage can be an appropriate way to have the woman I love by my side, whom I can marry in front of my God, and claim as my wife. If you'd let me, I'd like to take care of Niti for the rest of my life. If there's anything that you'd like to ask of me, you can, Niti."
Niti looked into his eyes and announced, "There's nothing that I wish for, but to have a traditional, Indian wedding." Xander gleamed to see her response and confessed, "All I want is your happiness, other minute things don't really matter. We will have a traditional Indian wedding."
The head nun still wasn't fully convinced and Xander didn't fail to notice that. Instead of trying to impress the lady, Xander went away with a radiant smile, without saying anything anymore.
After the span of three days only, the founder of the orphanage, Mr Robert Rushworth, decided to get his son wedded to the sweet girl. Though the wedding was rushed, it was huge.
~THE DAY OF THE WEDDING ~
Never in her wildest dreams, she had thought that she being an orphan would be lucky enough to get a caring husband and a warm family-like the Rushworths.
Niti was made to sit in her room until the ceremony began. As she got ready for the wedding, her heartbeat began to race. She, who never even had a foster family, was now going to be someone's wife. She was dressed in an all-red beautiful lehenga. As she peaked at her reflection in the mirroe, her eyes welled up with tears of joy.
All the other children that Niti grew up with, couldn't believe she was going to get married. The same was with Xander himself, Even his best friends couldn't believe he was getting hitched to one chick.
"What made you change your mind about women so suddenly? You always seemed to consider them 'hoes'. What happened, dude?" Lucas, one of his cousins, whispered into his ear.
Adrienne and Carmen, Xander's childhood friends, who were standing beside them chuckled and aided Lucas in teasing him further. Though his friends kept bothering him, Xander seemed quite occupied with something else. The head nun who still wasn't convinced about Niti marrying the rich heir who had a well-built reputation for being a Playboy, decided to confront her about the same thing again. She expected Niti to reconsider her decision before it was too late.
Xander observed Lorriane's movements and understood where she was headed. He discreetly followed her, without making a sound. While she went towards Niti's room to discuss what she had in her mind, Xander hid behind the window to hear the old woman's thoughts.
The moment she pushed the door open of her room, she observed the magnificence smile of Niti, and her beautiful face. She neared her and said while cupping her face, "You look so gorgeous, dear. "
As she believed her to be her daughter, her eyes brimmed with tears. Niti felt discomfort, then stood up in haste as she moved towards her to wipe the tears. While comforting the old woman, she spoke, "Don't cry, I will not be able to leave this place if you're sad."
"Silly girl!" The nun said after hugging her, "these are tears of joy. I have always dreamt about this day. The day when my dear Niti would get married and move forward to lead a blissful life."
Niti looked into her eyes and asked, "Then, why do you look so sad?" The nun cleared her throat and said, "Dear, I'm not particularly sad. I'm just concerned for your well being."
"Concerned? Why is that, ma'am?" Niti asked with uncertain eyes, and the old lady confessed, "I'm not really sure if that guy is worthy of you. There's much more that the rumours say that defy his sweet words. I'm not sure if you will be happy with a man like him."
"Man… like him? What do you mean?" Niti asked in a panicked tone, unsure of what the nun meant.
As she opened her mouth to divulge further on the topic, someone called out her name, "Nurse Lorraine!"
"Who it might be?" The old lady wondered while going towards the window. Xander crawled further backwards to save himself from getting caught. Then, Niti declared, "It must be father Dan. You should check on him once."
"Mmmm, excuse me then, " the lady spoke as she headed out. As she closed the door behind her, someone abruptly, grabbed her neck from behind. She wanted to turn her head to see who the person was, but couldn't because of the pressure applied to her neck.
"Who…. are… you? …. Leave...me!" The old lady struggled to let out. The man who was holding her further pressed her neck and snapped her throat. The old lady's body fell on the ground as she spewed blood out of her mouth. Xander looked at the woman's broadened eyes and said in a low voice, "Don't you ever dare to come between me and my love. If I have decided that I will get married to her, then nobody can stop me. For she belongs to none but me! I have unfinished business with that bitch."
