Less than ten shots will be necessary for the small garrison in Fort Laval and about twenty for the much bigger garrison in Fort Petain.” The sheiks gasp and look at one another in wonder. “Then this will be the start of our victory,” one of the younger sheiks says, and he strokes his black goatee, which lends him a handsome and aristocratic appearance. “Hear-hear!” the others chorus. “It holds no danger to our soldiers because the gas bullets can be fired from as far away as six hundred paces downwind, and they only explode when they hit a target, for example, the fort’s walls.
