His soft voice had a lilting accent. He wasn’t from England. He must be from Ireland. His accent was gentle on my ears. Carefully he set the water bowl into its holder, then stepped a few feet away and watched me. I slowly walked over to the bowl and dipped my beak into the water. The water was sweet and fresh on my tongue as I drank. Of the past one hundred years, I’ve spent about seventy-five at sea, so I knew fresh water was a precious commodity. I looked at my empty food bowl, then at Holt and Toby, who had their backs turned to Jangles.
