Chapter 3 (Caspian's POV) The pain settled in my chest as soon as I walked away from my mate. I need her. 'We need her.' Maximus, my wolf growled in my mind. Of course, we needed her, she was our destined one. I wasn't thinking of completely walking away from her. We just needed to see if she had a boyfriend, if she was serious about someone or engaged. See, I am a werewolf, but not any werewolf. I was the prince of all supernaturals. Everyone knew me as the prince of Italy. What most people didn't know was Italy is the home to the supernaturals. My name is Caspian LaRosa, the next King of Italy. I just turned twenty-nine years old last week, meaning my father would pass on the status before my thirtieth birthday. I was excited to rule over the supernaturals, to be as justified and strict as my father. The only thing missing was my mate. A mate to a supernatural being is a soul mate to humans. However, instead of trying to make the connection ourselves, finding the one that means the most was easier for us. We sensed them, felt the pull the Goddess created for us. With liberty, I felt my one and only pull. The problem was, she smelt human. Why would the Goddess link me with a human? I was sitting in my jet, headed back to my castle. Father moved the castle to a deserted branch of Italy, surrounded by no one, after an assassination attempted on my life as a child. See, we normally don't mix breeds. Our mates were a hundred percent the same breed and for the others, who had to take a chosen, they picked from their own species as well. Except for my father and now me, it seems. Father is mated to a dragon and the whole supernatural world had gone into a frenzy when he claimed her. At first they seemed calm, until mother had me. They feared I would be a hybrid. They feared the unknown. I am not a hybrid, only a werewolf. When others realized a dragon and werewolf had only a werewolf, they were relieved, but they still didn't dare mix with the other species. Rejection has been high in the last ten years, others fearing they wouldn't be as lucky to have a single species child. So, they rejected their mates. Some committed suicide after, others went insane and some chose to move on. Maximus and I have been looking for a chosen the last four years. My wolf and I narrowed it down to three wolves. These ones, we have been courting to figure out which one was most compatible with us. Oh sweet Goddess, I was going to have to tell them all that I didn't choose any of them. We gave up on our mate after traveling to each continent. To think, she has been in France this whole time. How had I not smelled her out before? 'Let mother deal with the woman. I don't want to be near anyone but our mate. Her sadness is affecting us.' Maximus whined, as he buried his head into his paws. I knew what he was talking about. The mate bond allowed us to feel each other's feelings, hers were intense. How closed of she was made us honestly think she was angry when we were around her. I felt how much she needed our safety and comfort though. How did I court a human? How would I make her accept this world and live comfortably with me? I regretted leaving her already. Liberty. What was her last name? Who was her family? Why was she petrified before I arrived? The worst question floating through my mind was if she would show up to the ball. I prayed she did. "Where is your mind, son? Your mother and I have tried speaking to you for the last twenty minutes." Father said, as he blew out an aggravated breath. Twenty minutes? When had I even gotten off the plane, let alone arrived home? Was I lost that much within my mind? "You are right. I am at fault for not listening. I apologize for being disrespectful." I told them with a slight bow. Father and mother were with their council, I really needed to watch out when and where I was spaced out. It could cause a large number of problems. "Son. Are you alright?" Mother said, s**t I was lost in my head again. I looked around, realizing mother cleared the hall for us to speak freely. "No, I am not alright." I sighed. I fell onto the seat, losing my posture, as I dropped my head into my hands. " I found my mate." Mother squealed with excitement. "Oh how exciting. We will have to tell your potential chosen you will not be choosing them. Where is she? When can I meet her?" Mother dodged around me, trying to find my mate. "Did you not bring her back to the castle?" The confusion in my mother's voice squeezed my heart. Oh, how I wish I could have brought her back with me. I don't even think she felt the pull, she was extremely reluctant and tense around me. How was I supposed to bring her into this world? Should I try to date her? "I'm disappointed, son. It's dangerous to leave your mate out there and vulnerable to the world. Many are after your seat due to the lack of companionship that you do not have. They want a Queen, son, to balance the continent. They bring it up every meeting now." Father scolded me. I could feel the disappointment radiating off of him. "Father, she's human. I wasn't sure how to go about telling her she was my mate." I said, as I looked up at my father, squaring my shoulders. I have only ever dropped my facade for my parents. I could hear others approaching, making me jump into a straight postured, formal stance. My face was schooled, not allowing anyone to read my emotions. Mother looked at me in confusion, before her ears twitched in awareness. She finally heard what I heard. I wonder if my abilities were stronger because of having different species of parents. I couldn't lose myself in my thoughts again. I pulled myself back into the present, just in time to dodge Bianca's tackle of a hug. Her squeal turned sore faster than I expected, and I knew a fight was about to break out. Veronica halted her steps. Her bottom lip jutted out in a pout, as it wobbled. Here it goes, her famous, on the cue, water works. I turned slightly more, ignoring them two. My eyes connected with honey brown ones. Olivia was there as well. Seemed these three made mother's work a little easier. "Please do not touch the prince," Mother said with her authority leaking out. "We have decided not to go with a chosen mate. The prince will be searching for his mate further now. Please respect the royal decision and leave the premises." Mother was not playing around. She never really liked any of them before today, anyway. Olivia was too intimidated by my mother, not showing the best signs of a Queen. Veronica ignored the presence of my mother, showing that she didn't have respect for the royals. That left Bianca, the one I caught threatening my mother multiple times. Mother always talked me into giving her another chance, but she was my least favorite. 'I have never liked any of them,' Maximus said, with all the sass he could muster. You would think he was a female wolf with that type of attitude. "HOW DARE YOU PUSH US TO THE SIDE? YOU WILL NEVER FIND YOUR MATE. IF YOU DO, I WILL MAKE SURE SHE DOESN'T MAKE IT TO THE CORDINATION." Bianca screamed in a fit before stomping out of the meeting hall. Well, f**k. Father was right, Liberty wasn't safe out there or here, it seems. Olivia and Veronica seemed to bow their heads in defeat. I wasn't sure if I could believe they wouldn't cause any problems, but for now I would just hide my skepticism.
