Unlike King Joel’s great hall during mealtime, the wolves’ central castle chamber was more boisterous, more alive. Filled with the warriors who lived in the castle, the long wooden tables lining the room were crowded with men and women lost within their own din of jovial chatter and deep, throaty laughter as they enjoyed their roasted meat and drink. But not unlike the human kingdom, when the strangers entered their chamber, curious eyes spilled toward the large-mouthed, arching alcove, quieting the room a little.
