The coachman pulled back on the reins, hissing at the horses to stop as he struggled to pull them to a halt. The large wooden wheels on either side of the tall wood-planked prison wagon skidded, battling the wet, muddy road. Yet, even when everything did finally come to a standstill, the driver’s eyes were in constant motion as they lobbed over the five horsemen facing him, blocking the road ahead. His thick bush of a beard and furry mustache animated as he spoke, “I’ll have no trouble with you!” The man was large; however, his thickness had more to do with fat than muscle.
