Part 5 The Content Rating And Prohibited Content

Content Guideline

Reading, regardless of age, is one of the ways people relax. On Dreame, we cater to every age possible. However, not all books are suitable for every audience. Furthermore, to create a safe, enjoyable, and friendly community for everyone, some content is prohibited on our platform.

When you create a new story on Dreame or make a submission to us, please refer to the categories below and rate your story accordingly. It will help your story to reach the right target audience.

Content Rating

4+ All Ages: the content is suitable for all ages.

12+ Teen and Up: The content may not be appropriate for readers under the age of thirteen. Content may include slight violence, crude humour/language, some profanity, and mild/implied sexuality. Such content may be touched on in the story or appear in several paragraphs.

If a story contains the following, it should be rated as MATURE or above, by yourself, when publishing on Dreame.

16+ Mature: The content contains adult themes that may include s*x, violence, alcohol, or gambling, but aren't as overly graphic or intense. Such content may be shown at a low frequency or in several chapters in a row but should not make up the majority of the novel.

18+ Explicit: The content contains frequent or explicit adult themes that may include, among other things, graphic s*x, graphic violence, or illegal drug use etc. Any work that contains a significant amount of s****l or violent content, regardless of how graphic it is, should be rated at 18+.

Tips:

a. Very few books are all ages because most books have some violence, kissing, intimacy, or alcohol use. If you want to choose this rating, please make sure that your story is VERY KID FRIENDLY (Think Dr Seuss or Robert Munsch).

b. If you are writing a romantic story, which contains non-graphic romantic scenes, you should rate it 12+. However, if the romantic plot has an explicit description of s*x, then you MUST rate your book 16+ or 18+, depending on how graphic those scenes are. If your book is in the Steamy stories category, then you MUST rate it 18+.

c. If your story includes Mental Health themes or scenes dealing with self-harm (e.g., suicidal ideation and eating disorders, etc.), you MUST rate your book 18+.

Besides content rating, to build a friendly reading and writing environment, we have defined regulations on some content which you are not allowed to publish.

Please note that not all the Mature content is available on the APP, rating Mature does not mean you can post any content without any limitations.

Prohibited Content

Any content that infringes, in whole or part, any intellectual property right (including but not limited to copyright, trademark, publicity, or privacy rights) belonging to any third party. A typical example is a plagiarism.

Any s****l content involving minors.

Any content that includes illegal s*x acts, including, but not limited to, b********y, n*********a, paedophilia, or incest.

Any content that encourages and promotes non-consensual s*x acts, such as rape, s****l assault, s****l torture, kidnapping for s****l purposes, s****l slavery, or s****l insults.

Any content that teaches or encourages s****l acts, including, but not limited to, description about reproductive organs, link to porn sites, or images and texts with vulgar contents.

Any content that involves discrimination, whether based on race, religion, nationality, language, gender, s****l orientation or other factors.

Any marketing content about weapons, drugs, tobaccos, alcohol and other dangerous products.

Any content that promotes any illegal activity and sedition.

Notice:

1. Dreame maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. If any work created by an author on our website is confirmed to have been written by someone else, we will take action to remove the book permanently from our platform.

2. Child abuse and Child pornography are not allowed to be posted on Dreame. Child pornography is the consequence of the exploitation or s****l abuse perpetrated against a child. It can be defined as any means of depicting or promoting s****l abuse of a child, including print and/or audio, centred on s*x acts or the genital organs of children. Therefore, explicit or indicative s****l assault, kidnapping for s****l purposes, or s****l slavery are prohibited to be posted.

3. Pornography should not be the core force to drive the plot in the story. Please do not use this kind of content to attract the reader’s attention.

4. Fiction is not the tool to do missionary work. Please avoid preaching to children in your story.

5. To avoid stepping on the minefields of religion and race, cautions need to be taken when it comes to some sensitive words, which should be contextual to make sure it will not cause any ill feelings to readers. Normally, it is only non-offensive when they are used among the characters of the same ethnic group/national origineligion/s****l orientation for the purposes of exchanging banters or making jokes. Otherwise, it is better to be safe than sorry.

6. When there is a need for your characters to make negative comments or judgements about race, s****l orientation, nationality etc. it is better to do so through the supporting characters or the villains. The main characters being neutral or opposed to discrimination will let the readers know that the dominant values in the story are not to promote hatred or discrimination.

7. Take full consideration before using sensitive events, such as natural disasters, atrocities, conflicts, or deaths, to create a story(s).

8. This is not the completed list. Dreame reserves the right to remove a story/book for any reason we deem applicable.
