Chapter 4

Lucia’s POV “What do you think you’re doing?” he growled, his voice laced with irritation, looking at the two men. Horus backed away immediately, dropping Mr Reynolds' collar. “Nothing, Boss.” He stared at the both of them, his eyes blazing. “Have you two gone mad?” Horus looked down, although I could still see he was furious. “No Sir.” Damien shook his head. “You, follow me. “ I hurried behind him, happy to leave the two men to kill each other if that was what pleased them. Damien led me to an adjoining room, picking up a book on the table and handing it to me. “Here, put that in that cupboard.” He muttered, pointing at a cupboard. I felt my face burn red with embarrassment. “I-I’m sorry, sir. I didn’t mean to do that.” Damien’s gaze hardened slightly as he noticed my trembling hands. “You know what? Just stay away from my personal belongings, okay? Touch nothing unless I expressly tell you to and try to stick to your duties.” I nodded nervously. The room was very spacious, but all the furniture was covered in white sheets, as though it wasn’t used very often. He shut the door behind him, locking us both inside. Alarm bells immediately went up in my head. What was he doing? Looking at me, a smile on his face, he approached me slowly unbuttoning his shirt. “You know why you are here, right?” I shook my head, “Please don’t call me that Alpha Damien” He paused, an amused look on his face. “I see Horus has thought of something about you at least. Well, you are here to serve me.” “I know that, sir.” “Good then, your main job would be to take care of my, eh… desires.” My heart resumed its incessant pounding, “Sir?” “You heard me.” “But, Sir, I thought… “ I stuttered, unable to put it into words, the attraction, the way I was drawn to him. “You thought what? That I was your mate?” He threw back his head, laughing cruelly, “Don’t flatter yourself, you may be pretty, but I will rot in hell before I accept a lowlife like you as my mate.” My eyes widened in shock, “Sir!” He reached out, grabbing me by the shoulders in a flash, “Don’t play dumb with me b***h, you know what I mean.” “No, Sir!” I yelled, struggling to free myself from his iron grip. “Get down, do my bidding.” He pushed me against the wall. I could smell him now, so close to me, not the alpha scent I had detected earlier, no. This time, all I could sense was lust. Deep, primal lust. I felt myself getting weaker even as I fought, slowly succumbing to his overwhelming strength. “Hey.” It came from inside me, a slight, quiet voice. I continued the struggle, not answering, as Damien’s hands started to tear through my dress. “Hey. You may need my help.” The voice said again. “And you won’t get it if you keep ignoring me.” I recognized the voice, I hadn’t heard it in a year, not since the death of my family, deep, somewhere in my brain, somewhere that already wasn’t overwhelmed by panic, I asked. “Nysa? Is that you?” Damien had already pinned my hands above my head, standing over me, a savage look of triumph on his face. Nysa giggled, “We have some catching up to do, but first, let’s get you out of this pickle, shall we?” “Yes! Please!” She scoffed, “He is distracted, let’s see what we can do about it, yeah?” What followed was a burst of strength I didn’t even realize was possible. Growling, Nysa’s power pumping through my veins, I heaved him off my body, flinging him hard against the wall. I heard his shocked yelp, but I didn’t care. I sprung to my feet, ran through the door, ripping it off its hinges almost without effort. I could hear him screaming furiously for someone to stop me, but I didn’t care. The heavy footsteps were coming closer, so I ran down the hallway, breaking open the front door. The shouts grew, I could smell the shifters turning, I could smell the open Louisiana air and my freedom. With it so close, I didn’t care anymore. I ran off into the dark, heading straight into the city. I didn’t stop running until I finally got back into the city. Only then did I slow down to a walking pace, even though my heart was still pounding. I hurriedly walked the dimly lit streets of New Orleans, my heart beating very loudly in my chest. I glanced over my shoulder nervously at intervals, almost half-expecting Damien’s guards to pop up, out of the shadows at any moment. They didn’t. I had escaped them, barely. Clutching my dress, hiding the torn patches, I hurried along, seeking out Nysa. “Nysa, where have you been all this while?” She smirked, “Why? Did you miss me?” I rolled my eyes, after all these years, I had nearly forgotten how mouthy she was. “You always know how to make light of a situation, don’t you?” I snorted. “I have been trying to reach you all this time, Lucia.” She said, “You locked me away, when you locked out your family, you have suffered all this while, alone.” I paused, unsure of what to say, “You have been trying to reach out?” “For the past ten years, Lucia.” She said, indignantly, “ever since that night.” “I am so sorry, Nysa, I didn’t want to remember.” I said, leaning against a wall underneath the streetlight. I wasn’t sure about the time, but judging from when I left Saint Theresa’s, it should have been close to midnight, and I had nowhere to go. “Apology accepted.” She said “Now, let’s focus on getting you out of this mess. We will do some catching up later. Any idea where we’re heading?” I glanced around, “Not really. I just need to find a safe place where I can be on a low profile for a while. Somewhere Damien won’t think to look.” I was interrupted suddenly by a car pulling up next to me. Nysa let out a warning growl as the tinted windows rolled down. A man in a hooded jacket and dark sunshades stared at me from inside the car. “You lost?” I shook my head, walking faster. “No.” The car rolled on beside me, “This part of town isn’t safe.” “I can take care of myself.” He stopped the car suddenly, leaping out and chasing after me. “Hey,” he grabbed my hand. “Let me give you a ride to a safe place. Okay?” I looked at him, his hood had fallen, revealing his mop of snow-white hair, tied in a bun. Icy blue eyes staring at me. “I am not inclined to hop into a car with a stranger at night sir,” I said defiantly, pulling my hand from his strong grasp. His scent told me he was a wolf, an Alpha even, but not just any regular Alpha, his aura was far greater than anything Damien exuded. This man was far more powerful. “Lucia?” I heard Nysa whisper. “Follow him.” “Why?” I protested. I felt Nysa’s fear, so absolutely it sent chills through me. “Because I don’t think we have much of a choice.” She replied.
