Maverick

DAMIEN POV Gemma wasn’t lying. Maverick’s driver pulled up to pick the three of us up at 5:00 pm, sharp. I was starting to wonder how wealthy he actually was. Having a driver pick us up to take us to one of the fanciest restaurants on the island. Gemma told us not to worry about anything, that Maverick wanted to take care of her most important people. She told us to dress in the nicest clothing that we brought, so I am in a white button down and black jeans while Madeline is in a flowing white sundress with a blue floral design. She had curled her hair and pinned some behind her left ear. Her makeup was soft, mostly just accentuating her beautiful green eyes. She looked absolutely stunning. I wondered what she might look like on our wedding day. Would she want to be more traditional and wear white or would she opt for a different color dress? I smiled at the thought. She would look beautiful in anything that she wore and I cannot wait for the day that we say our vows. After arriving at an exquisitely fancy restaurant, we were greeted by the hostess, who quickly took us to a table Maverick was already waiting at. He stood as soon as he saw Gemma, rushing over to plant a kiss on her knuckles. She was swooning. “You must be the beautiful Madeline?” He said with a thick accent, grasping her hand and also planting a kiss on her knuckles. She nodded, smiling “Nice to meet you, Maverick.” He turned towards me “And you must be the wizard, Damien.” I burst out laughing. He looked a little surprised by my outburst. “I’m sorry. I just still can’t believe Gemma called me a wizard.” Gemma was shooting me daggers from across the table. “From what she said, you make some pretty spectacular drink combinations. I hope someday you’ll make a special drink combination for my bar.” I smiled at him genuinely “Absolutely. I like to custom mix something up for each bar. Madeline here makes some pretty great names.” She gave me a genuine smile. “Well, I hope you both will come up with something special. I own the Tiki Hut down by the beach. That’s where I met Gemma.” He explained while turning towards Gemma with an adoring smile. “Gemma has been slim on the details of you two meeting.” Madeline wagged her eyebrows at Gemma. Maverick spoke up “I have no problem telling my side. I was assisting at the bar when the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes on walked up, ordering a s*x on the beach. Her long blonde hair and stunning blue eyes had me mesmerized. I couldn’t even think, just stare. I composed myself, rather slowly, as she’d already gotten her drink from my bartender and walked away. I spotted her dancing to herself on the dance floor. I took my chances, walking out and asking her for a dance. She came home that night and I’ve been drunk on her ever since.” Gemma’s cheeks had turned a strong shade of fuchsia. Madeline had the biggest smile looking at Gemma. “Well, I’m happy for you both. Gemma deserves the best. She’s an amazing person. I’m lucky that she is my boss and sister.” “Ya’ll stop it. All these compliments are going to permanently change the color of my cheeks.” Gemma rushed out. Everyone just chuckled at her comment. Madeline’s phone ringing broke us out of the laughter. She quickly reached in her purse to silence it, but I couldn’t help to notice her furrowing her brows while looking at the number. “You can take that if it’s important Miss Madeline.” Maverick said. Madeline looked up quickly, waving dismissively “No, I’m sorry for not having my phone on silent. I don’t recognize the number. If it’s important, they will leave a message.” She faked a smile, but I could see right through it. I reached over to grasp her hand under the table, lacing her fingers with mine, and giving her a reassuring squeeze.
