Lorenzo's Point of View
I could hardly wait. My car was racing on the highway. The place they found out was not far from here. Only an eight-hour drive. I smirked, imagining how she would react to seeing me there. Did you really think you could run away? You had no idea what I could do. Especially when it came to you, cupcake.
I leaned on the seat. Closing my eyes, I exhaled deeply. Antonio would be reaching there soon. He would be enough to take care of Marco. At least for now. Once I got a hold of Cora, we would fly from there directly to my home. I wondered what she would say about all these. Hell, she didn't even know me being a mafia, let alone being the king of this dark world. Besides, I had to tell her about that incident three years ago. I sighed again. I had a lot to explain. Would she still be willing to be with me? What if she really loved that girl? An uncertainty filled my heart.
'If not, I'm gonna drag her with me. Living here unprotected is not a choice for her anymore.' My conscience reminded me. I couldn't deny it. If Marco was after Levi, he definitely knew a lot. Cora would never be able to live freely until Marco was breathing.
I shifted my gaze to my hand watch. Six in the evening. Two more hours and then... You would be mine, Cora. And this time, you wouldn’t be able to run.
"Have you got the address?" I asked the guy who was driving the car.
"Yes, boss. I have even confirmed with the motel." He replied, gulping hard.
"Good," I smirked.
The time passed by and we reached the motel on time. The wooden structure was standing by the beach, surrounding an open garden in the middle. Not bad. My men stormed into the reception area. I stayed behind them, watching their every step. Well, I had another identity as a clean business executive and many already knew my face from several business magazines or the news. Hence, I always stay behind and let my boys deal with the matters.
"Welcome to our motel. What can I do for you?" The girl asked with a smile, standing on the other side of the wooden desk.
"We want to see the guest registration list for this week." One of my men, Elijah, spoke. He was one of my most trusted ones. That girl flinched a little at his voice.
"I am sorry, sir, but we keep those kinds of information private." That girl had some nerve.
Elijah knew very well how to handle these situations. With a death glare, he slowly took out his SR9 and put it on the desk.
"I will ask one more time." He spoke in a cold voice.
Her eyes became wide open. She shifted her gaze to the pistol and then she moved her eyes towards Elijah. Gulping hard, she mumbled, “we… we don’t want any trouble."
“Neither do we,” he responded.
The girl typed something on her computer and then turned the monitor towards us. “here.”
“That’s more like it,” Elijah smiled, putting his buddy back in the pocket.
He checked on the monitor. Suddenly, his expression changed. He gave me a meaningful look and then he asked that receptionist again, “Cora Fletcher. They haven’t arrived yet?”
“No, they haven’t. They booked it online and have paid beforehand.” That girl spoke again.
She wasn’t here! It took me only a moment to understand the situation. She never meant to come here in this motel or anywhere near this beach. She had clearly lied to her family and everyone else. That little girl had pulled a trick on me. My blood was boiling in anger. How dared she? But before I could react, my phone started to ring. It was Antonio.
“Speak,” I ordered, holding the phone near my ear.
“Lorenzo, things are getting difficult here. You need to come back as soon as you can.” His voice was serious as ever. Marco must have done some major damages.
I hung up on him as I stormed out of that motel. My men and my family needed me. I had to go back. I walked straight towards the car. My men followed me.
Before I could get in, I moved my head a little. “Elijah, I want her alive. Use your every means and drag her to my den.” I knew my words were my order. He would take care of it from here. Let’s see how long you could hide, Cora Fletcher.
Yesterday
Lily’s Point of View
“Hungry?” I asked as I peeked at her.
“Yeah, a little,” she replied. But her growling stomach told me otherwise. Poor Cora. She had had nothing since morning, maybe.
“You sure are!” I smiled, earning a giggle from her.
I had been driving for almost four hours now. All I could see in her face was tiredness. And of course, she was hungry. I scanned the area on the map displayed on the car.
“There should be a gas station. I will pull over there,” I told her. We had a long way to go. We should get prepared.
“Okay,” Cora smiled again.
As I predicted, the gas station appeared in my way. I parked the car, and we headed inside the small store to get some food and drinks. I grabbed a large coffee and a sandwich, so did Cora. We bought some dry and canned snacks as well, and a few bottles of cold drinks and water.
“This should be enough for now,” Cora suggested.
“Think so,” I nodded. I paid the bill in cash.
After finishing the sandwiches, we started again. It was past midnight.
Suddenly Cora peeped at me again, “um… may I use your phone? I’ve lost mine.”
“Yeah… but why?” I asked her.
“I should text mom once,” she replied.
“Don’t worry about that. I have already told your mom that we are going to the beach,” I informed her again.
“Beach? You lied to mom?” Cora’s voice made me realise my mistake. I never intended her to find out about this. I played a little trick here. I told everyone we were heading to the beach and also booked a motel over there.
The moment Lorenzo threatened Austin with sending Valerie to a brothel, I could see how dangerous that man was. Austin wasn’t just any businessman. He had power and money. And Lorenzo was threatening him, standing inside his own house. Despite being a foreigner, Lorenzo didn’t show any fear. Something about him was telling me he wasn’t just a businessman, and Austin’s silence was enough to prove that. If he ever wanted to find us, he could do it in a blink. So, I took extra precautions. Like renting a car and taking an extra sim, carrying cash only and that beach thing. A friend of mine helped a lot. Else I could never do everything on time.
“Look, Lorenzo isn’t gonna give up easily. So, I told everyone about the beach and also even booked a motel there.” I sighed, telling her only half of the story.
“Are you crazy? Going away was enough. He won’t be able to find us that easily. He is a foreigner here, remember?” Cora argued.
Of course, you hadn’t seen what I had, Cora. Everything about that guy was screaming danger. I couldn’t possibly have left clues for him. But she had already gone through enough. I better skip that topic for now.
“I just did it for the safety, Cora. That man looked dangerous.” I tried to defend myself.
Cora’s Point of View
Lorenzo. The name that poured hatred in my vein, to date. I hated him with my everything. Why on earth even he had shown up? I was happy in my life. Everything was perfect. Even Lily proposed to me. My eyes were fixed on her. She looked tensed as she answered. I exhaled deeply. Lily lied to my mom, spent a bunch of her hard-earned money. Even she and I were in a run and it was all because of him.
I placed my palm on her shoulder, giving it a little squeeze. “Hey!” She quickly took a glance, only before shifting her gaze at the road again.
“Thanks,” I murmured.
“Cora, I just want you to be safe, you know. I love girl, so much.” she bit her lips as she spoke. I knew it was hard for her, too. Still, she was willing to do all these just for me. Could I even be luckier?
After another hour, we exchanged the seat. I took the wheels and let Lily rest for a while. She leaned on the seat, tilting her head towards me. A smile formed on my lips.
“Stop staring.” I tried hard to hide my smirk.
“You like it, don’t you?” She replied, tucking a strand of my hair at the back of my ear. I smiled at her. Couldn't deny it!
Lily gave me directions and after another three long hours, we were finally near the farm. The sun was colouring the east sky, waking up Nature. The chirping filled the air. The surrounding air changed suddenly. Lily hung her head out of the window. Taking a deep breath, she spoke, “ah! Such fresh air!”
“True,” I couldn’t deny. This area had its own sparks.
“You will see a paved path on your right. Take that,” she instructed.
“Got it,” I responded.
Soon we were on that path that took us away from the small town. The Only thing we could see was lands after lands, separating the road by a fence. We came across a little bridge. Crossing the stream, we headed north. Soon a big wooden gate welcomed us. There were a few trucks and other pieces of machinery inside the gate. Then my eyes fell on all those crop storages and some wooden shades. Suddenly, I saw a mansion standing a little further from all these.
“That’s it. Our home for the next few months.” Lily spoke.
I smiled at her words.
‘With you, anywhere is home, Lily.’
