I woke up in my room alone. I wonder when he got out of my room but found two women standing in my room. I winced when very strong sunlight got my face and with this heard those women giggle.
I looked at them before getting my eyes on a blue colour dress. “Why you didn’t wake me up?” I asked not liking how I was being observed being slept. “King asked us not to disturb you until you aren’t up.”
“Did he tell you to stand by my side?” I asked to which they looked at each other and the tall one replied, “How we were supposed to know that you were up?”
Wow,
“From the next time when you find me sleeping you can wait outside. And, I will call for you.” At this, they again looked at each other before the taller one replied. “It will be a lot for you,”
“No, it won’t be…I will call you.” They got confused as if they had heard something new. It is when the shorter one asked. “Do you want us to stay or…leave?”
I looked at the water and the plate. “I would like your help to dress up. Also, I am starving.”
The dress was not as heavy as the one I tried yesterday. They helped me getting ready while I looked at the motifs on the sleeves. A dragon.
“Where is Dogan?” I asked making those women look at each other before they lowered their gaze.
“King…it doesn’t matter what you call him but always calls him with his title when you have company.” I heard a woman as she entered.
“Oh…I didn’t know.” I tried to shrug away but I found doubt on her face.
“Now, you know.” I could feel that there was something cold in her voice. I wonder why?
“Where is the…king?” I asked again to which again that woman answered.
“You should have your food first…he is busy. And, if he doesn’t return until dusk only then you can look for him.” I get that I didn’t know the rules much here but I was needed to put them in her place.
“You are talking to the queen of Kalph right now,” I replied and didn’t complete the sentence. And, I guess she knew.
I could see she was finding something on my face but replied. “He is away to look into the matters regarding his leave tomorrow.”
“And, who are you?” I asked but she only smiled in pride before the taller woman started introducing her.
“She is Raheek’s wife. She had been our greatest ally in all of the times and Raheek is no less than an elder for our king.”
“It must be nice…” I passed that woman a smile indifferently before I looked at the maids. "...I want you to take me to the king,” I asked and the shorter one who is called Zora reply,
“When is he leaving exactly?” I asked.
“I think they will leave tomorrow,” Zora replied,
“Already?” I don’t know. I recalled how he will be killed soon. And…what if…what if I can’t see him again.
“It’s his duty. Don’t worry, you will have us. You are no less than him for us.” She spoke and I stopped passing the hallways the moment I came across a very huge hall in the base.
“What is this place?” I asked to which she smiled and replied, “We do celebrations here. There should be one for you too but we are not in good times.”
“May Dragons bless you,” I heard my mother-in-law coming from the front. She had six women following her.
“To where you two are leaving?” She asked making Zora replied,
“I was taking her to the lower hill.” She replied and I saw a smile spreading on her face.
“You are going to see him?...” She said nodded her head and came forward to hold my hands.
“Don’t be anxious. You can trust us. You won’t be lonely after him.” I don’t know why but I could tell she adores me.
“…Elder…they have got a witch.” All of us saw a woman who came to say all of this frantically.
I wonder what it meant. “No need to tell about this to our king. You can burn her…and, you Shia, you go to him.”
“But…elder…she is pregnant.” The woman added making his mother's features hard.
“Do you have to tell all of this in front of our Queen? She might get upset. Ask the guards to throw her behind the walls. We will wait to see if she bears a witch or a normal kid...”
“...you don’t worry about it, Shia. You can go to see our king. Such matters will be taken care of.” She tapped my shoulder while I proceeded with Zora. We walked for several more minutes before we passed a bridge. And, in the brief moment, I stopped in the mid to look at the city underneath and the beautiful hills that housed our palace. The other hill had darker passages. I could hear some whisperings already and found his scent wrapping me.
She took me to a room where almost eight men stood finding my presence. But he was nowhere to be seen. “Where is our king?” I asked to which two spoke.
“He is in his room,” “He is in his room. I can take you.”
It turns out that Zora can’t go any further from here and that man who I still don’t know who he is started taking me more into the place.
“My name is Jaha. I am his friend too.” I smiled when he introduced himself. He was only a little taller than me and had honey hair with little subtle. I couldn’t help asking.
“Do you know about any person in the palace who only has four fingers?” I don’t know why but if I can know about that person it can help Dogan immensely. He might be saved. In fact, before he left for the war. I had to tell him.
“No, I don’t know about any such person. Why? Is it important?” He asked to which I shook my head before replying. “Nothing, I will ask the king. He might know.” He nodded but I could tell now he will be on the lookout too.
“He is in there.” He said and left while I look at the narrow but high entrance. I went in to notice him standing in iron armour.
“Why you didn’t wake me up?” I asked making him look at his back. I could see he was in deep thoughts.
“What are you doing here?” He took long steps and I yelped the moment he collected me in his arms. I let my hands hold his face and found myself wanton as his hot breaths fanned me.
“I am leaving this evening,”
“No,” I held him tighter. “…take me with you. I promise I will support you,” I guess my request was much uncalled for because he seemed beyond shocked.
“What are you talking about? You are supposed to stay here. Be safe and birth my son. You will be their power when I won’t be here…”
“And, what about me? Can’t you see how much this is difficult for me? How I will live without you? For years…”
“You know, I don’t have time for this.” He said making my heart heavy. Of course, he didn’t care about me. And, even if he wanted me safe it was only because I was his wife or the future mother for his kids.
“It’s fine…you can leave. But let me tell you one thing. I can’t promise you that I will be here until your return.”
“And, where you will go exactly?” He asked without care. Of course, he was confident that he can find me anywhere.
“To where I belong…and, believe me…If I go there I will never return.”
“Don’t you dare leave my city walls? When I return or see you the next time I want to find you with my son…waiting for my return…Jaha!” He called for his friend who appeared after a few moments. And, in these few moments, we only looked at each other.
“Why are you being like this? Only in the morning, you were so good to me? How can you?...” I wanted answers.
“Don’t you know? A true king knows when to love his queen or where to draw the lines. So, you will either let me go in peace and get to see me off in the evening or you will be held in our room until I don’t leave.”
“Why are you doing this to me?” I asked to which he pulled my hair down before seething over my mouth.
“Do you think it is easy for me?” I looked at his eyes that turned to show his yellow eyes.
“You called for me?” Jaha asked and he looked at me for a few moments before uttering, “Get the queen back to her space. She will rest and won’t see me in the evening,”
“Dogan,” I held his chest but he removed my hand before stating, “Make sure that she doesn’t come out of her room until my leave.”
“Of course, King,” I heard Jaha say but stayed at my place.
“You…will not find me here. I swear.”
I turned my heels around and left. I heard many cries of joy and roarings as he left to protect his land from the enemy. I recalled how he was killed by a four-fingered man but never get to tell him. Plus, even if I tell him what I was supposed to say to where I got this information. Would I say I attended your funeral and found a kid saying this? For the thousands of times, I tried to get out but wasn't allowed to.
The night arrived and I wonder for what I was living here. I should left but…then I recall how he has trusted me to get the morale of his people high. But the night was cold without him. And, recalling his warm skin against mine was all I could crave for.
For the next two days, I get to have my food with his family where once Raheek’s wife joined us too. She was quick to make remarks as to why Dogan’s mother and grandmother didn’t choose the bride from the Taseen bride but it didn’t matter to me.
Dogan’s mother was always keen to listen about Saka’s secrets to keep their women beautiful, clothes luxury and food amazing. Without any of my knowledge of what the Saka tribe actually use I make them learn how oil can be used to fry things. And, to say they were surprised was least. Else, there were always boiled meat, pulses and rice.
I went out to the city after four days. Of course, with fifteen other women who made sure that I was answered timely and also prohibited me from talking to any locals for security reasons. I stopped at a stall made of stone and the woman was showing different dresses. I stopped to ask her how she was making them and told her how making short gowns with more design on the inner cloth can do wonders.
I didn’t feel sick even after the sixth day. And, my mother-in-law wanted nothing but to see me weak and a little feverish. I don’t know how she was so sure like his son that I will get pregnant for sure. His grandmother too though talks a little less on the topic wanted nothing more than this.
That very same night of the sixth day, I woke up in the middle of the night. I felt cold and was shivering. Feeling way too weak to move I leaned over the wall and waited to get my breathing to normal. I felt hot and a lot troubled. I removed the sweat beads off my face and tried to sleep again.
“Shia...Shia!…” I heard my mother-in-law's voice and stirred to find her beside my bed. Well, it never happened before.
“What’s happening?” I asked and found myself too weak to move a finger.
She held my hand in hers and gestured to someone. I found Zora who helped me to sit and his mother tried to give me some water.
“Don’t worry…you have to be very strong. It is only difficult at the start. Later, you will be just fine.”
I couldn’t get what she was trying to convey but held my throbbing head in my hand before looking at my other side. I found his grandmother sitting there. “It can get hard. But I promise to make your food with my own hands from now on.”
“What’s wrong with me?” I asked with much difficulty and his mother answered. “Dragons have blessed you. And, the more you get sick in the start is the sign that they are pleased. They…like you,”
“Yes,…and, it also means that your son will be far stronger than his father.” His grandmother added while I recalled the day Tiara told me that only a god can do this. And, there was no doubt…those gods were monitoring my every move closely. One wrong move and I knew everything will be destroyed.
