AMELIA "What a handsome young man," Mom remarks as we stroll down the hall, where the indistinct chatters of the TV, Cam's, and Anthony's voices blend. Furious, my mind commands my legs to halt. "Mom, stop this now." She stops and turns, her brows furrowed. "Why are you so rude to him? He's just being nice." She can't give Jake a chance, yet she hastily concludes a stranger is a flawless man. Why is she intentionally frustrating me with my decisions? "I don't like the idea of you guys staying here," I emphasize once more, sensing a lump in my throat. The emotions from all that happened on campus left me in critical trauma. I can barely breathe, and I'm only trying to disguise it from her and Anthony. I should be under the shower, crying out in regret for ever knowing Cam in my life.
