CYNTHIA'S POV
For a moment, I found it hard to process what was going on. I stared at the man and woman standing in front of me, unable to believe my eyes.
"Sam?" Unknowingly, I had called out and I saw him flinch before looking away.
From the moment he stepped in till the moment I called his name, Sam showed no emotion on his face. It was as if he wouldn't be bothered even if the world was to end at that moment.
He held Anna's hand, holding her as if she were the most important person in her world. His gaze toward me held indifference, sending shivers down my spine.
I couldn't believe it; my eyes darkened, and my hands turned sweaty. My fingers trembled, causing the file in my hand to drop on the table before me but I quickly bent to pick it up.
Gathering my thoughts, I forced a rather forced smile toward the couple in front of me. Couple...
"Is this your partner, Miss Anna?" I asked, I could tell my voice was a little unnatural but I wouldn't break down in front of the camera. Never!
Miss Anna smiled softly and placed her fingers on Sam's chest before resting her head on his shoulder, "Yes, This is Lawyer Sam. Not only is he intelligent, but he is also my father's most trusted lawyer. I'm sure that's enough to show how capable he is. With him by my side, I'm even more confident about my chance at winning the contest," She said to the world, her eyes brimming with happiness as she gently rubbed his chest.
Within her eyes, it was easy for someone to see the love she had for Sam and when I looked at Sam, I was forced to admit that they indeed shared a feeling. The expression on Sam's face, the tender look in his eyes was so familiar that it nearly pushed me to tears.
I swallowed and lowered my eyes, leaving a forced smile on my face, "I'm glad to hear your reply, Miss Anna. With this point from you, I can tell that the Alpha ceremony would be very interesting. I hope your brother, Kelvin, will give the world a shock, too," I said, smiling gently.
Talking about Kelvin, anger surged in my veins as I thought about the good-for-nothing playboy. If only he was a bit responsible, Anna wouldn't have been given the chance to even participate at all!
I inwardly bit my tongue and the smile returned to my face, "On behalf of my boss and everyone here, I wish you success in the upcoming Alphas ceremony, Lady Anna. Please, have fun!" I said and nodded my head toward the camera crew, who immediately switched it off and gestured to me.
Seeing that the camera was off, I let out a deep breath and looked toward Sam, who was busy whispering something into Anna's ears. My lips slowly curled up in an arc and I clenched my fist. Unable to withstand the dirty scene, I coughed lightly to attract their attention. "Lady Anna, would you like to see Mr Dorian? He's been waiting for you," I softly mumbled and she smiled brightly.
"If I do not see him, I'd be wasting my visit here today. We all know he is the real deal, right?" She joked and walked toward me, but not before kissing Sam, who was smiling sheepishly beside him.
Until then, I had never realized Sam looked so silly. He really looked like an imbecile at that moment.
I took Anna out of the room without sparing a glance at Sam who had decided not to give a damn about me since he entered the room. "It's here," I said, pointing to Mr Dorian's door before pushing it in.
I led her in, and as usual, my cold-hearted boss was sitting leisurely on his seat, his face buried in his work even after he knew we were inside the room. He gently raised his head and nodded at me, slowly shifting his head toward Anna. He stood up calmly, his eyes not changing in the slightest, "Lady Anna," He called deeply, his voice resonating in the cold room.
Anna smiled gently and walked over, "Mr Dorian, why are you so formal? We could be friends, you know?" She asked sweetly and walked over to him while displaying her charm to the fullest.
Mr Dorian's brows gently creased and his frown deepened, "Friendship is made, not asked, Lady Anna. I'm glad to have you here today," He coldly replied and somehow, I felt admiration toward him. "You can leave, Cynthia," He ordered calmly.
I bowed slightly and walked out of the room. Stepping out, I breathed out a reigned air and walked toward my office only for a large hand to grab mine and I was pulled back. "Have you lost your mind, Sam?" I asked coldly. I had seen him the moment I stepped out of Mr Dorian's office but decided to ignore him but who would have expected that he would follow me and even touch me after all he did!
Sam dropped my hand and rubbed his nose gently, "I had no idea you would be in the office today, Cynthia. Ain't you supposed to be at home today? You've always prepared for our anniversaries from home. Why are you here?" He asked, his voice holding no hint of remorse and my heart sank.
My lips parted, moving with the sinking of my heart and I swallowed hard, "Is that your excuse? For bringing home another woman from your business trip and introducing her to the world? Is that your excuse for ignoring me even after I called your name in there? Is this your excuse after three years of being together? Tell me, Sam. Is this truly your excuse?" I asked, feeling disappointed in myself for holding so many expectations toward a jerk like Sam.
Sam shook his head and moved closer to me, "You need to calm down, Anna. Shouting won't solve anything and would only lead to scandal. I should have explained this to you long ago but I've been busy. Will you give me a chance to explain, please?" He asked, staring at me intently.
My brows creased, and my fingers slowly closed into fists, "Explanation? What explanation, Sam? You only have to answer a question of mine. Will you leave her? For me, Sam, Will you leave Anna?" I asked, holding my breath while looking straight into his eyes.
"No, Cynthia. I love Anna," His words rang over.
