CHERRY WOKE TO THE faint, distant cry of an agitated baby and Rene’s snoring. She looked over at her roommate, who was sleeping on her back with her mouth sagging open. Rene was nice, and she was easy to live with in most respects, but Cherry couldn’t wait until the farmhouses were built and she could sleep in her own room in her own house. She dreamed of a day when the threat of the Scythians was gone and she could concentrate on her farm.
