“Can you at least not be cranky in here? It’s one thing barking out orders to everyone else like you got something up your ass. And it’s another talking to us in the same manner.” Oliver, Varden’s younger brother and beta hissed, picking up a file from the table, while rolling his eyes.
Varden wasn’t in the mood. “You may be my brother, but I am your Alpha, and you don’t get to question me.” He hissed back and got up from his chair in a swift move, placing his hands in his pocket as he walked towards the window to overlook his surroundings.
They were currently in the study of the packhouse as Varden hadn’t felt the need to go to the office that morning. Heck, he was the boss. He could do whatever he wanted to do!
There was a small cough from behind, which he ignored, knowing it was his brother about to meddle.
“Are you sure you are okay? I mean, you came home pretty drunk last night, and you seem a little bit out of it this morning.” Oliver said in a low voice, probably because he didn’t want anyone passing to eavesdrop on their conversation.
That was the thing about werewolves. Their hearing senses were heightened.
Varden slipped a hand out of his pocket and ran it through his hair. He was restless. His wolf was restless.
He needed to find that woman. They, needed to find her. Even if it was just once.
There was something about her that had left an imprint in his very skin, and he was curious.
“It’s nothing.” He hissed, unwilling to say anything to his brother. Knowing Oliver, he was going to eat him out to their other brother, Draco. And together they would both mock, and drown him with their concern.
Turning towards his brother who looked at him wii ooo th narrowed eyes, Oliver shrugged. “What is the situation with the rogues, and the council of humans?” He asked, sighing as he pushed away the thoughts of the woman from last night to focus on the things he had at hand.
Oliver seemed to look at him critically, before shrugging too, and lifting the file he had picked up earlier.
“According to this, they are calling for a meeting with the Alpha’s of all the packs in this side of the country. I guess they feel a little bit threatened with the rate of kidnap and nuisance caused by these rogues.” Oliver said with a sigh. “According to them, we are not doing enough in terms of protection against them.”
Varden’s ears rang at that. “What the f**k do they mean by that? I have literally spent a lot of my time and resources putting those people where they belong, and this is what they have to say about it? Especially when they have done nothing to help!” He bellowed.
It was Oliver and Draco who usually had the time to listen to the humans. He, had sworn a long time ago to keep them at arms reach, as all the humans he had met, had always, always found a way to turn around and bite him in the back.
Oliver sighed again. “I mean, we should hear what they have to say first. Don’t you think?”
But Varden was already shaking his head. “I don’t want to listen to anybody’s bullshit.” He bit out harshly. “In fact, I don’t think I want to be in this place anymore. I’m heading to the restaurant, you are in charge.” He picked the car keys and went for his Jacket.
“But this is a really serious issue on ground, Varden.” Oliver was beginning to sound annoyed, but Varden wasn’t having it.
“Well, you can go then. And extend my sincere regards to everyone there. As for me, I’m out.” He finished, pulled the jacket, and headed for the door.
But of course Oliver had to follow him. “Are you sure you are okay? I mean, meetings like these are the opportunities you use to your advantage. What’s going on?” He asked, and swiftly moved, stopping in front of Varden who looked at him with annoyance.
He could feel Uriel withdraw deep within him, minding his business and leaving him to argue with his brother, while Uriel loved by the way. Sometimes, Varden wandered if he was assigned the wrong wolf by the goddess, because Uriel did a very poor job of when it came to confrontations with his brothers.
“I said it’s nothing.” Varden said, letting his irritation show. If his wolf was not willing to stand with him against his meddling brother, he was prepared to push him out of the way. It was only when a Oliver spoke next, that Varden stilled.
“We heard what happened with Eve.” Oliver said, just as Draco walked in, looking impeccable in his suit. And to tell that he had been eavesdropping, he turned to Varden and raised a brow as if he was demanding for an answer too.
What did they want to hear? It’s not like they didn’t know the details already, judging by their looks! “Well, it is what it is. It’s a closed chapter for me.” He answered with a determined look on his face. His walking in and catching her cheating, was a slap on the face to him. But there was nothing he could do, other than face whatever cake his way.
Both Draco and Oliver had warned him, but he hadn’t listened.
“I guess we should get going then.” Draco spoke, leaning over and tapping Varden’s shoulder a little, before walking away. Oliver did the same, and in a few seconds, the study was empty and quiet.
Varden sat at the edge of the table, letting his mind run.
Oliver had been right when had said he loved meeting like these. It was always an excuse to challenge them, and see who was boss.
But for now, he’s wasn’t interested.
He knew for sure though, that Bella cooked good food. And he was on his way there.
That being said, Varden stood up, and walked out of the study.
