The New Normal
Hi. My name is Lilah and my wolfs name is Lyra. I used to be in a pack but they were sexist and squashed my dreams to become a doctor. They also treated females very badly. So when I was 14 I ran away. I kept running until I made it to the human world. I went to university and got two degrees in human and veterinary medicine. I helped any and all creatures I found out back. It was a normal week for me. I just got off work at the clinic and was heading home. I went to look out the back window and froze. I saw this beautiful massive wolf but he was very injured. I debated if I really wanted to interact with it, especially since I was mauled last time. My guilt and need to help others outweighed my hesitance and fear so I slowly approached. He snarled. Hey I said softly. All I want is to help you. That’s it. Can you let me fix you up? You’re bleeding out. He snapped at me and growled. I flinched. I was seriously regretting my offer to help. I continued to speak to him softly and gently and sit still. I tried to look as small and not threatening as possible. He eventually huffed and gave in. Thank you. I’m gonna need you on the tarp buddy. He limped over and I took him inside. I’m a vet so I can take care of you. It might hurt and I’m sorry. He snapped. Here sniff. Tell me I’m a bad person. He thoroughly sniffed me then huffed. I know. You guys are a very independent species but let me fix you up before you bleed out. He laid down. Thank you. It was comical to me I was speaking to him as if he understood. For all I knew he really was just a wolf. I shrugged and got to work.
