CHAPTER SIXTEEN Adras marched over to the Shade-stricken group and wrapped his arms around the closest one. “Alright!” he shouted as he turned and marched toward the hill. “Let’s get you to bed!” The burliest of the healthy citizens followed suit and grabbed as many of the Shade people as they could manage. Some of the afflicted silently struggled in their grip, and more of the villagers swooped in to help. Still, they were outnumbered, and many of those afflicted were larger than they could manage. It was heartbreaking to see young children among the lifeless, their bright faces masked with indifference. Heavy marching footsteps from behind us made Ros and me turn around. Four rows of tunic-clad men and women, each a dozen deep, marched toward us, and at the head was a young man
