CHAPTER FIVE There was such a deep-seated fear in his voice that I looked up at him. “So, the ball has never caught your attention like that?” Ros drew me against his side and frowned up at the orb. “No. Did you see anything in it?” I shook my head, and the last of the fogginess was lifted. “Just its light, but I couldn’t look away.” “So I noticed,” he mused as he gestured down to the unlit lamp. “I was trying to shake you out of it for a minute before I thought to shut off the rocks.” I blinked at the strange lantern. “How did it make that light, anyway?” “The two stones come from Rivenburn,” he explained as he leaned far enough to pluck the lamp from its resting spot.
