SIX May 21 4:29 p.m.Detective Kim Weston checked her email for updates. At forty-three, Kim had been a cop for almost twenty years and her outlook on the world she worked in was three parts realism and two parts cynicism. She had seen every kind of crime imaginable and knew that people were capable of cruelty and brutality. But that exposure had also shown her the gentler side of humanity; those who were the victims trying to cope, and kind people who reached out to others in need.
