One Eye to Go

CHARLES’S POV My morning started great. Next thing I know, I am coming here for the sport of blowing off steam and to get a little information on who may be the rat, but thanks to Randolph, I am out for f*****g blood. My mate is here and in trouble. The closer I came to her, my insides felt like they were going savage and wild. I felt like an untamable beast, and there was no stopping me. I wanted her. I needed her. I was ready to make her my lifetime lover. Those useless pricks were taking up too much space in what is meant to be mine. I smelled them. The Salaquins are unmistakable. The testosterone, the wannabe d***s that filled the air; each one was after my mate! What a huge mistake. We followed the prints towards the logs, brush, and right to three busy Salaquins jerking off to my woman. They were too busy to notice how close we were. Before they knew what hit them, I took them. In one snap, I muffled their pathetic souls with one grip of my paw. After that, all that was left standing between my mate and me was the Salaquin twins. PEARL’S POV A wolf, black as night, steps out from behind the trees, one massive paw in front of the other. The werewolf shows he is in no hurry by taking his time, stride by stride towards the Salaquins. Each muscle in his broad shoulders bulge against his silk, fur coat, and his chest is vast and full of pride and power, but there is something different about him. From the stories I know, every Salaquins is notorious for their course, black fur, and fire red eyes. This werewolf’s eyes were far from being red. When the wolf blinks, his golden tones reflect against the sun in the treetops. His eyes mirror just as much beauty and warmth. I can only imagine how he uses his characteristics to benefit in gaining the trust of his prey. The more I stare at him; I feel like I cannot move my body. My feet freeze to the ground, and my limbs become paralyzed, but not from fear, but pure awe. Wow, he’s so beautiful. It seems his presence affects even the twins. The more I watch, I realize there is no way that they are the leaders; just power-hungry wolves trying to find their place in the pack. So, the question that haunts my mind...  Who is the alpha? This wolf is black just like them. Maybe he is their alpha! ... Wait, no, that cannot be right. His eyes are not red like theirs, and they seem threatened- not accepted by him. Then, why does he look so much like the Salaquins? What the hell! Si’reme and Raj’s attention locked onto the werewolf. Knowing they are not focused on me helps me find the willpower to move. Slowly, and as quiet as can be, I pull myself up on my knees. Before I can pull myself back to my feet, Raj’ kicks me down to the ground with his bare, grungy foot. The black werewolf growls at Raj’. The corner of his lip curls, showing him his sharp canines. I watch as the beautiful golden tones in his eyes disappear the second Raj’s foot meets my skin. Raj’ looks down at me and smirks, knowing he is getting to that wolf seems to fill himself with a temporary pleasure. Even I know that is a fool’s move. Raj presses his foot further into my skin. I try to look up and see what is going on between the three of them. It is hard to see everything, but I notice the black wolf glaring in my direction, then back to the Salaquins. The black wolf keeps his composure and greets them with disdain in his voice, “Si’reme, Raj.” The tips of both twin’s ears grow, showing they are about to change back to their most primitive form. The twin’s ashen grey nails curl past their fingertips. Their fist ball against their side, making me feel more like a weak rodent stuck on the ground ready to be eaten. I want so badly to get up, but I am afraid to draw any more attention to myself. What should I do? “Where are they at, Randolph?” Si’reme snarls toward the wolf. "I can still hear Roke’s heartbeat. It’s faint, but I know you have them close by." The black wolf gives a wicked smile and shows the corner of his right fang. Fresh drops of blood are still lingering on the tips of his silky fur and smeared across his teeth. “Would you like to find out?” He challenges. “Why are you still here, Randolph?” Raj’ hisses, “There is obviously nothing left for you take this morning.” “I beg to differ.” Randolph steps closer, warning them to back away from me. The black wolf lowers his long fury neck. His head bows down towards my body, while never once looking away from me. He sniffs me. I watch half curious, half nervous, as his nostrils flare in and out. The black wolf stares deeply into my eyes. He blinks once, then twice before I see it, the warmth and trust. There was something there. I swear by the look he is giving me it is almost human. “I think it would be for the best if you leave this one alone.” It wasn’t a statement, more of a death warning. “Hardly,” Raj’ argues back. “We’ve already claimed this one. Go and find your own little mouse to play with.” “No can do.” The wolf pops his shoulders and neck back and forth. “I already enjoyed playing before my early breakfast meal.” The black wolf stops moving for a brief moment, then licks his lips. He taunts, “but maybe… just maybe I could make saaay make two exceptions?” In one swift movement, the black wolf, Randolph, lunges forward and jumps in front of me blocking the space between the Salaquins and me. Randolph chomps his teeth together, demanding them to back down. Raj’ ignores his warning and allows his dark wolf to shred to the surface. One bite is all it would have taken to bring down Randolph, but Si’reme’s wolf intervenes and knocks his brother out of the way. Unfortunately, for Si’reme, he takes the wrath and falls to the ground. “Si’reme! No!”    RANDOLPH’S POV  Si’reme called me out. I was going after him next, but Raj’ made the mistake of kicking my mate to the ground. The bastard was going to pay. At least that was my plan. The fool got in the way. I had to do something. Now, I am staring at Si’reme. He is still in his werewolf form. He is barely breathing and missing one eye. The opposite of his brother’s missing eye, but again, they will look more alike now than they ever have their entire life. Raj’ cried out for his brother. He ran to his side and scooped him up. He howls in the air, showing me his defeat. “You won’t get away with this! I’ll be back!” he screams out. “And when I do, I will slaughter you and any soul they have ever known!” “If you say so, Raj. Tell your Alpha, I said hello.” I snap.  Raj’ fumbles away into the woods with his brother in his arms.  Finally, my mate is safe once more. As for their alpha, I will deal with him later. “Are you okay?” I ask, trying not to scare her. “I will be now, thanks to you.” Her fearless, grateful answer surprises me a bit, but I don’t let her know. “What is your name?” “Pearl. My name is Pearl Waters.”
