Had turned over furniture and inspected ceilings. He’d torn the carpets and ripped wallpaper off. Panting, sweating, he now stood in front of the wall in room seventeen, ready to swing. He’d found a baseball bat earlier in room eight and in the last hour, he’d been using it to punch holes in various walls. “Come on, you son of b***h,” he snarled, hitting the wall with the bat as hard as his tired arms allowed. He swung and hit and swung and hit again, until the hole was big enough for him to stick his head into. “Rudi!” he screamed into it, dust and whatever else getting into his hair and eyes again. H
