Boom.
Bang.
Thud.
Ouch.
Aah.
Screams echoed.
In a quick turn of events, Ella realized that she was not dying. She heard squeals and grunts that were not hers but the wolves who had ambushed her. She opened her eyes a little to peek around her and check if it was safe to move. Alas! What she witnessed was beyond imagination.
Her eyes expanded with shock, horror, and fear. The magnificent black wolf was covered with blood that was dripping from his claws and mouth. It howled ferociously before snapping the head of the brown wolf. She shuffled backward with her bum in reflex, breathing unevenly in fear. It was the most terrifying yet wondrous thing she had seen. She screamed in shock and confusion when she touched something moist and sticky. When she looked around to check, it was fresh blood coming from the grey wolf's body. He was lying beside her, covered in a pool of blood. His menacing eyes terrified her. She swallowed hard when she saw his heart lying not so far from his body. Did the feral wolf rip out his heart with his bare claws? How strong was he? She shivered in fear, inspecting her surroundings. The rest of the four wolves' dead bodies, including the brown wolf, were lying on the ground, covered in a pool of their blood.
"Let me go, please!" Ella stumbled, gulping hard, grappling to get back on her feet. The black wolf wheezed, his golden eyes fixated on her as if it was irritated because she could not recognize him. Have they met before? She couldn't recall seeing such a magnificent wolf ever before. She closed her eyes, petrified when it snarled out of fear. Was she the next target? He looked mad with rage. What if he can't reason between good and bad? Why was her leg glued to the ground when she needed to run for real? No matter how much she struggled to rise to her feet to escape out of there, she couldn't even move a little.
The wolf's eyes were glued to her as if she was some precious thing. But when he howled, she screamed once again, feeling dizzy because of nervousness. She tried to keep her eyes open. But she felt everything was revolving around her. Even though the black wolf shifted to its human form, she couldn't recognize this person. Everything was hazy and unclear and moving too fast. She couldn't get a grip on the events. She heard someone calling her name faintly before darkness engulfed her. She fainted in someone's arms.
Riven groused, patting Ella's cheek to wake her up. He longed for her for so long. He had been looking for her ever since he entered the pack. But she was nowhere. And now that they met, she was in such a horrible state? His heart ached, making him feel queasy when she fainted in his arms! What was wrong with him and with her? How could someone be so weak? He wasn't sure someone with such a splendid wolf could be so feeble. Her wolf looked magnificent. He had assumed it to be an alpha. But he was never more wrong. No wonder she was ranked as a lowly omega despite that wolf. She had no strength in her brain or body.
He was immensely bored at the party at the lake, especially because of Loui and the other girls who were constantly hitting him with weird topics or flirting with him for no reason, even if he showed no interest. His eyes vehemently searched for Ella. By the end, he was so restless that he couldn't focus on anything. His mind was constantly looking for Ella even if he tried to divert his attention when he couldn't find her. When he felt asphyxiated, he prowled toward the forest to get some fresh air. He was wandering around when he heard faint squeals and cries for help. On following it, he found a beautiful white wolf that had been ambushed by five hungry wolves. Its size and beauty mesmerized him. He was sure it was an alpha wolf who could easily take care of those average wolves. Much to his disappointment, it shifted immediately. It shocked him when he discovered it was Ella. His heartbeat thumped, making him restless. Everything was happening so fast that he had no time to even process it.
"I promise I will not tell anyone anything. Please, let me go!" Ella was pleading with them to show her mercy, crouching to her knees.
How could such a magnificent wolf be so helpless? Riven wanted to find it out, but it wasn't the right time. The wolves snarled, circling her, showing her no mercy. He had no time to misuse it. He didn't want to regret it later. He was sure they weren't rogue wolves. That pungent smell was not of rogues but of traitors. But why would they try to kill Ella? He was wondering about too many things, but they weren't as important as saving her. Something took over him. Before he knew it, he plunged, and shifted into his black wolf in midair, howling at the top of its lungs, charging toward the other wolves.
He had always operated out of his course for Ella! He should have demonstrated tolerance for at least one wolf to find the truth behind the attack. But for the first time, he had no control over his beast. It was on a rampant spree, ripping their hearts or snapping their heads. Even before he could prepare himself to control his anger, the five wolves had dropped dead on the ground, covered in a pool of blood.
He was still convalescing, trying to deal with what he had done in a flash of fury when Ella screeched in fear. She had a frightful expression on her face. She appeared pale like snow unexpectedly. Her eyes stuck out in fear. Her hands were dripping with the blood of the grey wolf lying dead beside her. She breathed unevenly, botching, weeping, aghast to watch the rest of the four wolves' dead bodies. It was a gory affair.
Riven didn't know why he did what he did in such a brutal fashion. He went uncontrollable and feral. But he couldn't figure out how a wolf is so subdued about blood. Didn't she receive any training? Even the omegas of his pack who can't shift get training for such perilous scenes. At that point, he was certain that her pack abused her. He felt an unparalleled rage to detect the magnitude of the abuse. He gnarled, out of reflex, pissed, his eyes obsessed on Ella.
"Let me go, please!" Ella stuttered, swallowing hard, struggling to get back on her feet. His heart broke when she saw her shivering in fear. He felt defensive and possessive about her. How can someone be so appalled that they can't rise back on their feet?
But abruptly she appeared to look wobbly, dizzy, and gasping for air. Riven shifted to his human form, scurrying to her side to help her, taking her in his arms to support her fragile body. He patted her face several times to keep her awake. She struggled a few times to keep her eyes open. But it was a hollow effort on her part. In no time, she blacked out in his arms.
Riven howled, but then he scooped her in his arms, sprinting towards the lake. It was where most of the wolves were present. Someone would definitely help her. They have to. Otherwise, he had no idea what he would end up doing.
When Riven showed up from behind the tree line with Ella in his arms, the first reaction was shock to those who saw them. But then someone screamed to alert everyone else. The wolves stormed towards them. It confused the Bluemoon wolves to see it was Ella in his embrace. Why would a lowly omega be with the mighty alpha? Or did he save her from something? It was spooky. But who could ask anything in that situation, especially Riven? Loui stomped her foot in exasperation. The woman was definitely creative to get Riven's attention! Was she playing dead to be in his arms? Here she dolled up in that swimsuit to grab his attention. And he didn't even afford her a second glimpse.
"Ella?" Levi emerged from the crowd, visibly disturbed about her, grousing, checking on her. "Alpha Riven, what happened?" he implored, worried. It surprised everybody to look at Levi displaying concern for Ella's well-being. It was a first. They had gotten used to his sadistic attitude toward her. Was he pretending to be righteous and considerate in front of the wolves of other packs? It must be the case, most of them assumed.
"Call the pack doctor," Riven barked, putting Ella's body on the nearest table.
He glared around and groaned, rubbing his forehead in anger. Everyone was going to talk about it! He exchanged a glimmer at Mateo, who was giving him skeptical glares. He puffed. Mateo had been constantly hounding him about Ella for a while now. Why did he have to witness it? He would brood more. Can't they all see she is hurt? Should he have left her when she needed it because of gossip?
To everyone's surprise, Levi picked up Ella from the table and carried her to a tent. He groaned loudly, asking for the pack doctor. Why was everyone so worried about her? Loui scowled, wondering about the unexpected turn of the situation. She had an eerie feeling about it,
