Stefan's POV…
"Fancy seeing you sleep so peacefully after the stunt you tried to pull." I heard her say as she paced around my cell doors.
"Ho-ww? When did you get in here?" I asked because I didn't sense her powerful aura.
"So what is the game plan? Enlighten me.
So I reject you, and you decide to kill me. Then what's next?
You become Alpha by claiming to have been my true mate, then you relinquish the throne to your father?
Now, that's really something. I have to give it to Reggie.
That is a good one." She said as she began to clap her hands sarcastically.
"Hold on, you actually think I tried to kill you?
You believe that after spending three years searching for my mate, I finally found her, and by the goddess, she is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. But just because you say you reject me, which, by the way, I haven't accepted yet.
You think I would kill you for that?!!
You've got to be freaking kidding me, Lorraine! I would never in a million years hurt a strand of hair on you, much less kill you because of some damn political ambition.
I am not my father, and I usually couldn't care less what the f**k Reggie does, but if he so much as has a hand in this attack, then I would kill him myself." I blurt out in anger.
"Yeah, right!" she stated, completely unconvinced.
"Sticking to the script, I see.
Listen, you could fool the entire palace or the world, but not me.
I can see through your schemes, but it won't work.
As for the mate sob story, you can shove that up your ass.
My only concern is how you got your filthy hands on the poisoned blade. There are only three of them in existence.
One is here in the palace, one is with the witches, and the third has been missing for centuries. Where did you find it, and where is it now?" She asked with a stern look plastered across that pretty face of hers.
Her lips puckered, and my heart raced anew.
I blinked severally, trying to concentrate on the conversation.
"I'm talking to you!!
Where is the blade!" She barked at me, but I was too lost in her cherry plum lips as she spoke.
I watched intently as her lips parted ways.
Imagining what it would feel like to explore every corner of her mouth and have her moan out my name as she lost control and composure in my arms.
"Are you daft or something?!!" She screamed out in frustration and grabbed hold of the hot molten induced railings that were meant to hold me in.
"Fuckkkkk, "she screamed, removing her hands from the railing in a flash.
My nostrils flared as I felt a slight sting of pain through our bond.
“Fuckk, f**k, Fuckk, Fuckkk!” She cussed out under her breath as she began to blow on her palms desperately.
"Lorraine? Lorraine?? Are you alright?"
"Why isn't it healing?" I asked as I caught a glimpse of angry red burn streaks on her palm. She had suffered second-degree burns?
"Lorraine?!" I called out to get her to look at me, but she was too busy nursing her hurting palms, so without thinking, I pushed forward and bent the railing bars open, rushing to her in the same breath.
"Don't f*****g touch me!" She warned in an irritated tone as she tried to push me away with what felt like a toddler's shove.
"Why aren't you healing?" I asked, ignoring her tantrums and constant squirming as she tried to loosen her hands from my grip.
"It's none of your damn business and the warriors would be here any moment from now." She said, referring to the fact that I had technically just broken out of a Royal cell.
"I'm not leaving your sight for a second. You need to tell me what's going on.
Not even the entire royal army could keep me away from you.
You can go ahead and tell them to re-arrest me, but I would break out of any cell as easily. The only reason I stayed here was because I wanted to talk to you.
I swear to you on my life, I wasn't the one who stabbed you that night.
I was too heartbroken to think.
My beast Killua and I were in a heated conversation when I sensed your pain and rushed to find you.
When I got there, I found you in the river, but there was no one else in sight.
So while you're here trying to get this so-called confession or truth from me, there's a real traitor out there whose head I need in my hand."
I stated, still staring intently at her fisted hand.
"So no, I won't sit here and play good cop, bad cop with you.
If you don't want to accept me as your mate, that's fine, but I have already accepted you as my mate, and by the goddess, I will do everything within my power to protect you, Lorr-"
"I don't need you or your protection, Stefan; the earlier you understand that, the better for you." She stated, cutting me off with a blank expression on her face.
"Alpha!" Five warriors yelled out in respect as they ran over to her side.
"What do you want us to do with him?" One of the warriors asked, his neck bent in total reverence and submission.
"Get him off my property, but keep an eye on him.
I don't want him within fifty feet of me, if he falters and ever shows up again, you can have his head for dinner." She ordered nonchalantly as she turned around and began to walk out of the dungeons.
"Yes, Alpha!!" The warriors chorused as they formed a beeline to stop me from trying to follow her.
I wanted to call out to her, try to make her see reason with me but I knew it was of no use. She wouldn't have any of it, especially with her subjects around. So I let out a deep sigh and followed the warriors as they led me out.
"We're coming back tonight. I can't let our mate be in so much pain.
I don't know why she isn't healing, I couldn't sense her Lycan either.
I think something is very wrong, but most importantly, she needs our blood to heal." My Lycan Killua stated as we got into our car and began to drive away from the palace.
"Don't try to sound all cheeky, I wasn't going to actually leave her alone.
I actually understand how she could come to the conclusion that we tried to kill her, but we need to earn her trust.
Because for every time she rejects us, It feels like a part of my soul is being ripped away from my being. I could barely even feel our connection today, and It's got me worried to no end." I responded and began to replay everything that happened that night to see if I could remember anything out of the ordinary or if I missed something. But I must have missed something because I didn't pick up a scent, but someone had stabbed my mate. Who was that? Who did that?
***
"Stefan!! What the hell? I've been trying to reach you for hours? What happened over there? How is she?" Reign asked, using Lycan speed and meeting me at the entrance of my home.
"Well? How did it go?" He added.
"She thinks I tried to kill her because I'm after the throne and has now she's barred me from coming to the palace or being within fifty feet of her," I said, and he went into a laughing fit.
"How?? That doesn't make any sense," My stepbrother Sean said as he casually strolled past the kitchen area.
"It's crazy, I know. She practically wants nothing to do with me, and the only way I can earn her trust is by catching whoever the culprit is myself." I stated, trying hard to leave my frustration out of my voice.
"Isn't she your fated mate? Shouldn't she be able to tell whether or not you're lying?
Besides she is the Alpha freaking queen, all she needs is a taste of your blood to tell if youre being honest or not.
Is it that your bond isn't strong enough yet?" Sean rolled out the questions leaving me reeling. Killua instantly growled out a warning at him.
"Breathe Sean, breathe." Reign urged while rolling his eyes.
"I'm just saying." Sean shrugged, throwing both hands up in the air as he grabbed a bottle of "ferdin," a more potent alcohol specifically made for Lycans.
"You shouldn't be drinking that," I said, grabbing the bottle from him in the blink of an eye.
"I'm seventeen not five, I can drink whatever." He said, grabbing it back from me.
I was about to give him a speech when Reign approached me with his laptop set precariously on his open palm.
"Have a look at this, with me. I have gone through all the angles.
There's a way to get you into the palace undetected.
It's through the forest, and then through the servant quarters."
"Why are you encouraging him? There's no way you make it into the palace and come back out alive. Your mate's word is law.
Did you hear how she killed Irvin? She isn't playing Stefan.
Stay away if she orders you to." Sean admonished.
"She's his mate, Sean. She could be mad at him or claim to hate him, but she can't kill him, even if the gods order her to.
Trust me on that. The bond messes with you in more ways than you can imagine." Reign replied.
"Whatever, just leave me the house and company when you die all because of love," Sean says mockingly as he walks away, heading for the stairwell.
"You sure about this?" I ask Reign, referring to the blueprint on his laptop screen.
We've been best friends for over a decade, but he's been a hacker for even longer than that, so you could say I trust him a lot when it comes to this.
"It's solid proof. Go get your girl, man." He said, then began making funny kissing gestures at me.
"Stupid," I stated lowly as I walked away from him, grateful for his help.
