Oliva hovered in the corner watching. She wanted to make sure Logan was okay with Alex, while they waited for Harper to arrive. She was still mad at herself for losing the bad person. The dead man's spirit still hovered close to his body, confused and lost it seemed. He tried to get back inside his old body but got spat out like a bad tooth every time. It would take him a while before he came to terms with what he was now. A ghost, like her until he can rest peacefully. She assumed when they found his murderer the white light would come for him, or the black shadow if he was unlucky. She'd had the white light, but she'd declined, being at her happiest, just where she was.
She felt bad that Logan had to see this scene. Blood everywhere, a wailing spirit wanting to get back in his former body. Alex seemed calm, keeping Logan out, while they waited for the sheriff. Olivia was glad that Logan had brought Alex with her, it would have been a mess if Logan had been alone. She'd tried to rush past Alex, while she spoke to Harper. Luckily Alex had caught her and pulled her out of the cottage. Olivia floated closer to the dead man's spirit, hoping she could help him.
"Hey." She hovered close to him, not touching, but close.
"What's going on?"
"You're dead." Olivia never saw any reason to beat around the bush.
"What? No, I can't be, I'm right here, I just need to get back, help me get back in."
"You can't, you're body is dead now."
"But, how?"
"That person who was here killed you." She said.
"Why are they just standing there? They could help me!"
"They can't, except find your murderer now." Olivia shrugged. "They have to wait for the sheriff."
"But they could do CPR or something."
"Really, you think that hole in your head needs CPR?" Olivia chuckled. "Look, you're dead, and the only way you'll find peace is if they find your bad guy, or girl. Come on, let's see if you can leave this room."
"What do you mean if I can?" He frowned at her. "If I'm dead, I'm a ghost, and I can leave."
"Not always." She said. and drifted through the wall. He followed her outside. "I guess you can. Let's go sit there by the pond, no use being in there until the sheriff comes." She floated to the bench and sat, he drifted down but went right through the seat and into the ground. Olivia reached down and pulled him out. He was screaming. "Okay, no sitting yet."
"Why can you?" He asked her gasping.
"Practice, and after years and years of that, I still sometimes can't touch things." He hovered close to her, looking out over the water of the pond. "Did you know them?"
"Who? Oh, you mean the one that did that to me?"
"Killed you, yes," Olivia confirmed.
"No, I didn't see anyone. I just got here this morning. I deliver things for my brother's company. He booked me this place to sleep tonight. Before driving back home tomorrow."
"Maybe he did it."
"My brother? No, not him."
"How do you know?"
"I just do."
"Who else?"
"I don't know, I'm going back."
"Okay, sure." Olivia followed him back to the scene. Alex was talking to Logan, she wanted her to go back to the main house, but Logan wanted to wait for Harper. Alex threw her hands in the air and swore. Olivia rushed over and ran a finger down Alex's back, she giggled when Alex shivered.
"Stop that Olivia," Logan said. Olivia shrugged and motioned to Alex then mouthed 'i***t'. Logan nodded and smiled.
"What?" Alex asked.
"Olivia says you're an idiot."
"I am not, and she better have a good alibi." Alex teased.
"She has. She's a ghost."
"Yeah sure." She looked at Logan from under her lashes. "How did you know about this, Logan?"
"I told you..."
"Yes, the ghost, but seriously, you need to tell me, Logan."
"Why? Do you think I did this?"
"No, f**k, sorry, hell no, but I mean really, are you going to tell the sheriff that Olivia told you there was a body here?"
"Yes."
"Logan, she'll have you in cuffs or thrown in a psych ward!"
"No, she won't, because she knows about Olivia," Logan said and folded her arms across her chest. "Unlike you."
"I'm realistic, and from the city, where we rely on real human beings as witnesses!" Alex felt her tone rise, her voice losing its calm. "I know you didn't do this! But using a ghost as the reason we found this, is ridiculous." She waved an angry hand at the cottage. She wondered where the sheriff was, it was not that far up the hill from the police station.
"Well, then I'm glad you're not the officer in charge," Logan said and turned to watch as Harper drove up to the cottage. "Finally, someone I can talk to."
"I hope you're right," Alex muttered.
"Logan, are you all right?" Harper rushed up to Logan and folded her in a tight hug. Alex watched as Logan stiffly returned the hug.
"I'm fine, he's not." She pointed over her shoulder at the open door of the cottage.
"I'm Alex." Alex held out her hand. "Detective Alex Burns. Homicide."
"Harper Beckett, the sheriff." She looked Alex up and down then turned back to Logan. "Go back up to the main house, I'll come to talk to you when we're done here. I called in the doc and deputies. I'll come to talk to you as soon as I have some answers."
"Okay, she won't tell you, but Olivia brought us here," Logan said, then with a last glance at the doorway, turned and walked away stiffly.
"I guess you don't believe in Olivia?" Harper asked as she pulled on a pair of gloves and handed Alex some too. When she looked at them surprised, Harper added. "I'm gonna need as much help as I can get."
"Okay, sure. Do you believe in ghosts?"
"I believe in Logan and Devina." She said. "Come on, let's see what we've got."
