Joe watched Alex, she was sitting talking to the home team on the computer, set up by Eva. Something was up with her, she seemed better than the day before, but something was different about her. He just couldn't put a finger on it. At breakfast, she'd avoided looking at Logan, and Logan had busied herself getting Harley ready for school. He'd caught Devina's eye and she'd shrugged, and he'd known she'd seen the tension too. Harley had kissed her mom, then ran past Alex and kissed her too. It was an automatic thing, something someone would do if they'd done it for years. Alex hadn't even thought about it, just done it and gone on eating. Not long after Logan had excused herself and left.
"Joe?" Alex repeated and glared at him. "If we're boring you, you can go."
