Chapter 2
Linda hurried down the ward. She knew that she would be late to get back to the front desk. When she did, the head nurse gasped, "Why has it taken you so long?"
"I'm just starting here," she said, "and I have to get my bearings."
"You'd better get your bearings quick, honey," the head nurse warned, "or you won't last long. Everyone around here has to carry his weight."
That really burned her up.
"Let me tell you something," Linda said angrily, "I've always been a hard worker. And
I don't appreciate your constantly getting on my back. Now quit bugging me."
Marjorie Peterson wasn't used to anyone talking to her like that.
"I should think you would have the decency to have a small amount of respect for your supervisor," she said.
