Chapter 11: Abyss

Grace’s pov
“Have a look at this scan, it seems familiar” Dad said, and I took it and looked at it.
“Yes, it is, the brain scan is identical to one about 6 months ago. Check the file of Demetri Sanchez” I said, and he smiled.
“I love having you come and visit me in my office.
I get all the work done fast” he said with a big smile.
When I help him with such things he smiles like a child who just found a way to cheat the system.
He took out the file, “Come on Dad, have some food first. I am trying this new recipe” I said.
He nodded as he closed the file and then took a bite.
“This is truly amazing; I must say that my amazing daughter is trying to make me gain weight and it is working,” he said making me smile.
“You should have a bite,” he said, and I nodded as I took a few bites.
“Have you taken Mickey to the vet yet?” he asked me, and I nodded.
“I just took him now, sent him home because I wanted to visit you,” I said, and he smiled.
“While you are still here can you look at a few things for me?” he asked me, and I nodded.
I looked at the files he gave him.
“Yeah, their vitals seem to have changed drastically over the last few days. But I can see a pattern” I said helping him.
There was a knock on the door, “come in” my dad said.
Lewis stood there all tall and proud with tattoos.
“I made enough for everyone, you can have a bite,” I said, and he didn’t even look at me.
“No thank you ma’am, but I do have news for you. Maxim Callas is returning and will be taking over as the new CEO” he said.
I looked at Dad who stopped eating, that name does make one lose their appetite.
“Thank you, Lewis, keep an eye on him,” I said, and he nodded.
“I guess the game is about to start,” Dad said, and I nodded.
“Why not?
All the players are now in the ring, it's only fair that it starts.
We have been waiting for 3 years, I guess the time has finally come” I said.
I got up, “I should go and get my armor,” I said, and he nodded.
“I know I have said this more times than you can count, let me say it again. It's not your fault” he said, and I smiled.
“You are saying that for the 61st time now,” I said, and he chuckled at this.
“Of course, you know how many times I have said it, but I do mean it,” he said, and I nodded.
I left his office and went to florists and got dandelions, my driver took me to where they were buried.
I put the flowers in front of Kate’s grave.
“I am so sorry;
I know that you will all say the same thing Dad says.
That its not my fault but it is, I am the one that brought the Callas family into our lives” I said.
Why didn’t I just mind my own business?
There are so many men out here who could have fallen in love with me.
There are so many nice men out here, why did I have to fall in love with Maxim Callas?
It's my greed that got me here.
I wanted someone extraordinary, someone who went out of their way to show me how much they loved me.
I left behind my dreams of living an ordinary life for love.
I brought this misfortune to my family and no one else.
But enough is enough. I will, no matter what avenge you all.
Every single person who watched as this happened to you will pay for this.
Everyone who benefited, who looked the other way, and who buried the truth will pay.
In these 3 years, I have been putting all the balls in their places.
Now with Maxim back the game will begin, they will all pay for messing with Grace Allen.
Don’t worry at all, not even a little Kate.
I will avenge us; the world will know the kind of people that the Callas family are.
Before you died you said that I would need money, power, and influence if I wanted to take them down.
I have that now, and I know that the Callas influence is bigger than mine.
But you know what they say, the bigger they are the harder they fall.
The world will witness the fall of the greatest family to ever exist and that too at the hands of a girl they killed.
I am ready to bury my humanity.
I know that when this game starts I will stare into the abyss.
I also know that the abyss will stare back into me as well, but I am ready.
I regret the day I met him, it's only fair that even Maxim regrets the day he met me.
Flashback
“What is this?” I asked him when we got outside.
Everyone in college was looking at him as if he was some celebrity.
“I told you, you and I have a date,” he said, and I took three deep breaths.
“Listen, Mr Callas, my parents taught me one thing,” I said but he interrupted before I could get to the point.
“Please call me Maxim,” he said, and I sighed.
“I was taught that one shouldn’t befriend or be enemies with rich people.
And you are what people would call extremely wealthy” I said, and he nodded.
“Just tell me what you want so that we can both go on with our lives,” I said.
“I want you” he replied, he was dead serious.
I looked at him, his aura was the same as that night.
I couldn’t even tell what he was thinking, he was dressed simply but still screamed wealth.
He even smells like he is rich.
“You said it yourself,
I am extremely wealthy and spoilt too.
When I want something I get it no matter what it is” he said.
“I am no one, I am nothing special. So, I beg you, leave me alone and forget about the date” I said.
He looked at me, “Fine then, but if you come in front of me again then I will make you mine” he said and walked away.
I turned around to find everyone giving me looks like I was their new enemy or something.
You see, just being seen with him has made me public enemy number one.
I went back to class and the week went by slowly.
Exam week is the next week so we would stay up all night studying and revising for exams.
“I need your help,” Daisy said, and I shook my head.
“You didn’t ask me what it Is,” she said, and I shook my head.
“It doesn’t matter, because of you I almost landed in trouble the last time,” I said, and she didn’t say anything after that.
“He won't be there, we are going to the library and Maxim studies alone in his room.
He has his private library, and we won't get caught please Kate” she said.
“No,” I said, and she looked at me with a smile.
“You like him, you like Maxim Callas which is why you are behaving like this.
Trust me, it's been a week already, he has long forgotten about you” she said.
“I don’t have a thing for him, I am just studying,” I said, and she smirked.
“I mean he is rich and hot; I have a boyfriend but even I think that he is hot” he said making me roll my eyes.
“Come on, just one more time” Daisy said.
I have been studying for hours and I could use a break.
Plus, it is fun sneaking into places, and she said that he won't be at the library.
Daisy is everything but not a liar.
“fine let's go, this is the last time,” I said, and she smiled.
I got changed and we took her car to the college and then snuck in and then straight to the library.
She found Alec along with some of his friends and he wasn’t there.
Well good that he isn’t here.
“Really Daisy?
If you are not going to trust me then just come here.
Come to this college instead” her boyfriend said.
Well, he is right on that part.
“Don’t you dare be sassy with me Alec, why weren’t you answering your phone?” she asked him.
“Enough, we are trying to study,” the girl who badmouthed me that time said.
Ariana, I believe that’s her name, she took out her phone.
“Security, there are two girls who don’t belong here,” she said.
I looked at Daisy, “let's get out of here” I said, and she shook her head.
“Not until this asshole apologizes,” Daisy said sitting down and I am not doing this.
She is rich so can get out of this unscathed, but I am not.
Security guards came in and Daisy got up, “run,” she said, and we started running for our lives.
The library is a maze, so we separated.
I found a spot to hide while catching my breath.
I opened my eyes and found two eyes on me.
“We meet again Kate” Maxim said, what is he doing here?
I looked around; it was only the two of us so far.
He was studying alone in this quiet corner.
I heard the footsteps of security.
My eyes landed on Maxim who smirked as he got up.
“Please help me,” I said, and he gestured that I get up.
I got up, he got closer to me until I hit a shelve behind me.
“What are you doing?” I asked him and he smirked.
“I am helping you” he said and then his lips touched mine.
My heart started beating like crazy, he was kissing me.
His lips are touching mine and I feel this urge inside me.
What do I do?
I didn’t know how to react, so I just stood there.
Then I felt myself react to his kiss and kiss him back.
“Hey what are you two doing there?” security asked.
I noticed how Maxim hid me behind him as he looked at them.
“OH Mr Callas, sorry sir,” they said and ran off.
He then turned around and looked at me.
“They are gone,” he said and then ran his thumb over my lips.
I was still a little taken aback by the kiss, my first kiss.
End of flashback
I should have stayed back in my room that night.
If I only stayed in my room would things be different?
Would fate still have found some way to screw me over?
