Olivia’s P.O.V
Lucas and I prepped on the car ride, sharing personal information that we needed to know for us to pretend to be together for the night. I was not sure if I would be believable since I am not the best at lying. Hopefully, no one says anything, and it doesn’t get brought up. The event was at some big fancy house out of town.
“You ready for this?” Lucas asked.
“As ready as I can be. Are you sure I am going to even fit in here?” I said nervously.
“Of course you will. Don’t worry sweetness; I won’t leave your side.” He winked.
The driver opened the door for us, Lucas letting me climb out first before following me. We thanked the driver before he drove off. Lucas was to let him know when he was to come back and pick us up. I turned around, and my jaw about hit the floor when I see the house. It was the most beautiful house I have ever seen.
“Wow!” I stammered out.
“It is beautiful, uh? My parents own it,” He said.
“Really?” I asked, shocked.
“Yes, it was passed down the family. My great, great, great grandfather built it with a small team many years ago. It is over one hundred years old.” He smiled.
It was beautiful, and the fact that it was made by the person who wanted to live in it made it even more special in my eyes. I smiled at how Lucas gushed over the place; you could tell he was proud of what his family did.
“And one day it will be mine, well if I behave anyway.” He laughed, “Wanna head in?” He added.
I nodded, Lucas wrapped his arm around my waist, leading us into the house. There was already plenty of cars outside, staff running around everywhere. As soon as I stepped in, I was in complete awe. The place was even more beautiful in the inside. I have never seen such beauty. Our coats got taken as we entered. I looked around at everyone; they all looked terrific, elegant, handsome and glamorous. I was soon feeling out of place, making me nervous. I feel Lucas place his hand on my lower back, rubbing it gently, his lips falling at my ear.
“Relax Princess; you will be fine.” He whispered, his tone of voice sending a shiver down my spine.
“I am trying.” I laughed.
He reached down, linking his fingers with mine and we headed further inside, Lucas grabbing us both a glass of champagne from one of the waiters, passing me one. Hopefully, this will help calm my nerves. He let go of my hands as quickly as he took it. I was mesmerized with my surroundings. I have never seen anything like it. I could tell Lucas never really wanted to be here. It does not seem like his thing. He would rather be at a party, a proper party drinking, hooking up and whatever else he does. The two of us stood awkwardly, drinking our champagne.
“f*****g great here we go.” He said under his breath.
I looked at him, confused before looking up and seen two women coming towards us. Lucas reached for me again, pulling me into his side.
“Lucas, what are you doing here? I thought you would be out getting into trouble.” One of them said, sounding slightly up herself, and I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes at her.
“Yes, did they pay you to be here?” The other one added, sounding the same as the first one “And did you hire your date?” She said, looking me up and down, silently judging me.
I feel his entire body tense next to me, and I felt awful for him. They seemed like a pair of two stuck up bitches. I see his jaw clench; he was going to snap. I decided not to let that happen, that would give them more you reason to treat him this way. Instead, I reached in, grabbing his hand in mine.
“No actually he never hired me, I am his girlfriend. And he is here cause his parents asked him, and he wanted to do this for his parents.” I said, “And you two have no right standing here judging him when you don’t even know him.” I added, annoyance clear in my tone.
I hear Lucas chuckle from beside me, the two women in front of me did not look too impressed with me talking to them this way. I don’t care; I hate people that judge this way. Yes, I get pissed at Lucas sometimes, but I would never treat him the way they just did especially since they are grown assed woman in their fifties at least.
“Well aren’t you rude, maybe you two are meant for each other.” One snapped at me.
“No, actually I am not rude. I was brought up properly and taught to treat people nicely and respectful, which I usually do until it comes to people like you that think they can treat everyone like crap. Now goodbye.” I said, pulling Lucas away from them.
I was still shocked with myself slightly with what I did, but I know it was the right thing. Once we were out the way he grabbed me turning around to face me, he was smirking but seemed quite surprised too.
“What was that? I never saw you as the type to do something like that. But thank you, no one has ever had my back that way.” He said, smiling at me.
“I hate people like that. And you are welcome, just don’t get too used to it.” I laughed.
“You and me both, that is why I don’t do events like this, it is always the same. They are all judging me and whispering about me. It is worse than high school.” He sighed
Lucas and I decided to forget about those two. We walked around, Lucas talking to some people, not everyone was as judgemental as the first two. We chatted with people, snacked on the food that was going around and drinking champagne. I could feel those two women glaring at me now and then, whispering about me to their friends. I never let it bother me, though.
“You wanna get out of here? I have been, showed face, chatted and made a donation in my family’s name.” Lucas reached in whispering to me after an hour.
“Will, your dad not get mad if you leave early?” I asked.
“No, he will be happy as long as he knows I showed face. Let’s go somewhere and get a decent drink and food without people whispering and judging.” He said.
I knew what he meant I had enough of it too.
“Yes, please? I need to go home and change first.” I said.
“That is fine, come on, let’s go.” He said
The two of us never said goodbye to anyone and sneaked out, deciding to call a cab instead of getting the driver to pick us up. The plan for the night? I go home get changed, and we find somewhere we can have burgers and beers, that was more my kind of thing and his too I am sure. I don’t know if getting drunk with him is my best idea but the night should tell.
