He wasn’t allowed out of the compound, he wasn’t allowed to climb, he wasn’t allowed to train with the other boys, he wasn’t allowed he wasn’t allowed he wasn’t allowed. But that was before the sickness, before his mother disappeared, before all of the people bled from the mouth and came for him. At least he’d found Lily. At least the old man had found him. At least they escaped. The sights and sounds of the jungle were overwhelming. The canopy, so thick and green and dark, closed in, threatened to smother him.
