Chapter 8: Unexpected Visitor (5)

Once alone the other began explaining the situation… “Mason was dumped by Ed yesterday…” Was all Nathan needed to say for the other person to understand what’s happening instantly.
“No, way… that clingy guy dumped Mei and not the other way around?!” Lucas exclaimed in a clear voice of surprise. “That’s not possible… that’s simply not possible… I mean what? Edward? Edward for real?!”
“I thought the same way but I’ve been trying to contact him since yesterday and he hasn’t been picking up…” Nathan said as he showed his phone to the man. “He’s not answering messages either…”
“Did he say why? Maybe there’s a misunderstanding or something… he could have said something that sounded like ‘breaking up’ and Mei just overreacted?” Lucas asked as he crossed his hands and sat on the bed that was closest to the door. “I just don’t see why he’d do it… unless he’s joking? I mean it is April first today…”
“Unfortunately… I don’t think he’s joking… and that would be something far too brutal to joke about anyway.” Nathan said as he leaned against the wall.
“f**k… and I thought he was a cool guy…” Lucas remarked as he laid down on the bed. “Well… I’m tired… Let’s think about how to cheer him up tomorrow…”
“Good thinking…” Nathan said as he went to lay down as well. He felt very tired after a long day of work and wanted nothing more than to get some sleep but it was still too early to go to bed anyways.
“Though… wanna order something in? I’m starving…” Lucas said as he picked up his phone. “We can still get some Chinese food. We’ll order some of Mei’s favorite too so he’ll cheer up as well…”
“Sounds like a plan.” Nathan said as they began choosing what to order. “Hey… how was the trip to Germany? Saw anything cool? How your mom?” He asked as he continued scrolling down the menu slowly.
“It was… let’s say not what I expected it to be…” Lucas admitted in a bit of a disappointed tone. “The pay isn’t that much more than here and even though I was with mom it was… horrible… her boyfriend is quite the character honestly…”
“What? Did he do something?” Nathan asked as he scrolled through the options in the menu trying to find something he wants to eat. Nothing really catching his eye at first.
“Well… when I first got there he yelled at me for barely calling mom while I was here… Then he started commenting about how the work I do isn’t up to standard… and it went like that for all five months I was there!” Lucas exclaimed in a really annoyed voice. “Honestly I don’t see what mom sees in that guy anyway…”
“I guess she sees something in him you don’t…” Nathan remarked as he made his choice and passed the phone to the other man.
“You don’t get it… he’s impolite and rude… I don’t even know why she’d consider dating him since he isn’t even that good looking.” Lucas said in a rather animated manner.
“You’re really overprotective…” Nathan remarked with a smile on his face as he laid down on his bed and took out his wallet, preparing the money for the food, then leaving it on the table.
“I’m not… just… dad was a better man than him… I don’t see why she needs to cheat…” Lucas said in a really disappointed voice. He sounded really hurt by his mother’s actions in that instance.
“It’s not really cheating since they’re not together though…” Nathan said as he tilted his head to the side. “You’re overreacting a bit, aren’t you? He’s her boyfriend…”
“Yeah but still… She’s my mother! Shouldn’t she take more responsibility and stay here with me instead?” Lucas asked as he looked at his friend as if seeking approval.
“Hey, hey… you’re mother has the right to be happy as anyone else… So what if she found happiness in her late forties? Do you really have a right to stop her…” Nathan asked with a rather careless tone.
“But…” Lucas paused for a moment as if thinking on the other’s words. “She’s… I’d prefer it if she were here, can’t she find happiness here and not in a completely different country with a random guy?”
“You’re a grown ass man, stop acting like the world revolves around you and let your mother date whoever she thinks is right for her.” Nathan said with a bit more of a serious voice as he turned to the side.
“You sound like Mason sometimes…” Lucas said in an annoyed voice, he didn’t know how to argue back at the man.
“I guess he rubbed off on me. Did you order anything for him?” Nathan asked as he pointed at the phone the man was holding.
“Yeah, a spring-roll and rice with vegetables…” Lucas replied as he ordered the food.
“Good, so… who’s going to go and get it when it arrives?” Nathan asked as he looked at the man again. Both of them as if in the same moment had the exact same thought in their heads…
“Rock, paper, scissors…” Lucas said as he extended both his hands, one in a fist and one palm open underneath it.
“One, two, three!” Nathan continued as he did the same gesture. He had chosen rock and Lucas had chosen scissors so he was the obvious loser.
“f**k…” Lucas said in an annoyed tone as he laid on his back again then sighed loudly. “I guess today’s not my lucky day…”
“Sorry, mate.” Nathan said with a smile on his face, he was obviously happy at not needing to go anywhere.
“Yeah, yeah…” Lucas remarked as he pulled out his wallet and set the money on the table as well. There was about a frothy minute wait before the food would be delivered to them…
