DUNCAN
Standing in front of my men, I feel a sense of pride at what we have achieved here in the last eight years. We have been training hard and we are ready, it's time to take back my home.
A hand claps me on the shoulder, I turned and my feet were swept out from under me and I landed flat on my back, my wolf hoots in my head.
"Ahh mighty warrior, got taken out by an old man, get up pu.ssy you are making the place untidy" As.shole, he sends me an image of him standing on his hind legs, his front paws crossing his chest, he falls onto his back with his tongue hanging out, fu.cker is playing dead.
"You are supposed to be on my side. You could have told me he was coming." now he is just laughing in my head. I look up at my dad's Beta, Fergus, he holds out his hand and pulls me to my feet.
"Sorry son, it was just too easy." I looked around at my warriors, they all thought it was so funny. Fergus steps forward, "Okay men, it is the third Sunday of the month, today is the day you get to get revenge for all the early morning drills, all the last-minute push-ups. Get into groups of eight and come challenge who you want to feel the pain."
We started this when we were a very small group, giving them the chance to take on their leaders, with no comeback. It's a great way to see what our men have got, see what they can do, without us ordering them, and has revealed those who have leadership in their veins.
When we started doing this, we had thirty-five pack members, with only twenty-two of them warriors, the rest were women with young bairns, so getting our as.s kicked once a month wasn't so bad.
We now have over two hundred and fifty in the pack, and only fifty are not in our warrior training groups, so we have split them into four groups of fifty. Because of our Sunday training, we found the perfect gamma for our pack. Lochlan was born a rogue. His Omega father had died while his mamey was pregnant. The Alpha, not wanting the responsibility of having to care for her and her bairn, banished her. As Lochlan's parents were omega's, the best he could have hoped for, in most packs, would have been a low-ranked warrior.
When I reclaim my pack, I will change that, everyone will be able to be promoted through the ranks, they just have to fight for it. Like they do here.
Furgus and my parents, Gamma Rory, are our head trainers. My brother, Harris, is my Beta, Lachlan my Gamma, in a bigger pack like The Rising Moon. I would consider having two Beta's and two Gamma's, but that is for later.
All five of us stood in front of our warriors as they got into their groups. I grinned at them, "okay whose first?" For the first time in five years no one picked me. I must be being too nice to them.
I spend the next two hours watching my Brother and Lochlan getting their a.sses handed to them. Furgus and Rory joined me as I leaned against the wall of the training building.
"I guess those two idiots have pis.sed them of the most this month," I grinned, "The warriors are looking good. I think it's time to promote some Deltas to our ranks. I think we have fifteen showing promise. We need to whittle that down to ten, then they can each lead a team of nineteen or twenty."
Furgus looks at me with pride, "you know it was not that long ago that statement would have been a question, I am so proud of the man you have become. Both you and Harris have become the men your parents always knew you could be, and now it is time to go home, and rip that limp di.ck as.shole apart."
After our warriors had finished with Harris and Lochlan we headed to the canteen, it's been a long time since breakfast and I am starving.
Lochlan nudges me, "Grace is staring at you again, fu.ck she is pretty." I glance over at the lassie, and give her a quick nod of my head, " yes she is pretty, but she is not my mate."
Lochlan sighed, "my friend, you are twenty-four years old and a fu.cking rogue, the chances of you finding your mate are slim to none. I get that neither you nor Harris want to sleep around, but why not find a lass and settle down?"
I grabbed my food and sat at an empty table, "Loch, the best memories I have of my parents are of the way they loved each other, the way my mamey looked at Da still gives me the shivers. I want love like that, and only the goddess can give that to me. We have a long and painful road ahead of us. Having a mate right now would only split my focus, so I will wait. Harris feels the same way, so please don't pressure him, okay?"
He let out a loud sigh and nodded, "well if you are not going to take her up on her offer, I will just have to give her the Lochlan Cambell charm,"
I watched him swagger towards Grace. As he gets near, she sends me a longing look, and I shake my head at her, she shrugs and links her arm with Lochlan's and they leave the dining room, and that is why I don't sleep around.
Furgus, Rory and Harris join me at the table, Harris pulls out a map of our parents' packlands. Tonight I am taking a small group and trying to get inside the pack. We want to see what has changed so we can make a plan of attack. I also want to see if there are any pack members that are still loyal to us, but my biggest fear is that they all believe that Harris and I killed our parents.
I think the best way in is through here. It was the Hamilton farm. I don't know if Liam and Elsie are still there though, but Liam was always loyal to Angus and Ilsa. Goddess, little Elsie will be nineteen by now, and if she is anything like her mamey, then she will help us."
Elsie Hamilton, an image of a tiny girl, with blond hair so light it looked white in the sun, goddess, she had a sharp tongue. I remember Harris and I stealing apples from her Da's cart. She gave us the tongue lashing of our life, wasn't bothered who we were. I smiled at the memory.
"Yeah, I think you are right, the Hamiltons were good people." I marked the map. Goddess, I hope the Hamiltons are okay. Hell I hope everyone is okay, but there was always something about Elsie.
