Ember -
The next morning the palace was full of life. Things were chaotic to a point, but our plans were moving along perfectly.
I was in the midst of grabbing something to eat when I heard a ruckus coming from the stairwell. It sounded like a heard of elephants were coming down the stairs. I watched as Ryder and Jace emerged looking frantic.
Alpha Damascus met them at the bottom of the stairs trying to get them to calm down so we knew what was wrong.
I heard them tell him that the Queen has gone into labor. Alpha started yelling at them and giving them orders to shift and run. Their stuff could wait for another day.
In that moment you would have never thought they were the rulers, but just another pack member that the Alpha was ordering around. I couldn’t admit it, but it was quite comical. They nearly broke the door frame running out of it mid shift.
Alpha Damascus, myself, Dante, Beta Eros, and Vatra were all leading our own groups. We needed to split up. Take them by surprise. Getting into their Kingdom was going to be an all-out pain in the ass, but we had several witches join us. They each had their own agenda of revenge against the Siren King. He had taken many young witches to attempt to mimic a child with the capabilities my blood child will have.
That thought turned my mood melancholy. I haven’t found my mate and I’m not sure I ever will. I would love to have children. Maybe it would get the stick out of Dante’s ass. He’s always so glum and serious.
After this is all over, he will need to take possession of the Dragon Kingdom. They need their leader. However, many of us there are left.
Several of the witches were able to infiltrate the Kingdom and was providing us with specifics on the security and surroundings.
They were able to send us a message so we can approach this carefully. Dante was absolutely furious that I was going, but I couldn’t stomach the idea of everyone else going in.
The other Kingdoms chose who would be leading their teams. We were about a mile from where the entrance was. The witches were able to help us get the men so they weren’t going to be affected by the Siren’s song.
After another day of full planning, we prepared to storm. We had found several hidden passages that would allow us in without much issue.
Once the time had hit, we moved in. Slowly and quietly. We were all able to use a magic perfume that changed our scents so they wouldn’t know it was us until they saw us.
Getting to the castle was going to be a pain. Dante was leading that team. We would be going in shortly after him once we reached.
Surprisingly, getting in wasn’t as difficult as we thought it would be. The guards were easily distracted. The vampires were busy starting fires all over the city.
As we made our way around the palace, we were able to find where the Siren King was located. It sounded like he was in his office having a conversation with someone. Dante signed to surround the hallways and be prepared for a fight. His team was going in. I thought it was the oddest thing when he just gently knocked on the door.
“What do you want?” the Kings voice yelled.
“Sir, there is a problem.”
We could hear the man’s footsteps stomp the floor as he made is way over. The door swung open, but before he could even understand what was happening. Dante pulled his fist back and hit him right in the face. His body went flying into the room. There was a crash as he landed. We all started entering the room. The King was half way sitting on the floor with blood running down his face. I eyed the other two people in the room. They were obviously warriors. They took a fighting stance and we prepared for their attack. The King got up and looked at each of us. When he got to me, I could feel his eyes creep along my body.
“You have saved me a lot of work in finding her.” He smiled. I didn’t dare look at him. I was watching his two goons.
“She isn’t yours. Get over it.” Dante said. His body was ridged and ready for whatever came next.
All 3 lunged at us at the same moment. Our teams sprang into action. I was busy focusing on the other two. We were able to take them down pretty quick. Dante’s team was struggling with the King. He was much larger and of royal blood which also gave him an advantage. The only one who was keeping up decently was Dante. Dante yelled for me to stay back and they continued to battle.
At one moment, Dante lost focus and the King took advantage of it. He clamped onto Dante’s throat and threw him across the room. Dante blew clean through the wall and into the other room. Our teams swarmed the King and I checked to make sure Dante was okay. His head was bleeding and he had a piece of wood sticking out of his chest.
I went back into the room with all of the fighting. I yelled for several of the warriors to take Dante out and get him medical help.
My eyes stared down the King with hatred and anger burning in my heart. His eyes held a smile in them that burned my rage. I felt my fire within me consuming me.
“Now I have you.” He laughed.
“All those people killed to protect you. And here you are.” We began circling one another.
“I told my father it was stupid to allow your mother to go, but he didn’t listen.”
The heat radiating from my body was like a warm comfort to me, but I knew everyone else would feel a painful heat. I yelled for them all to leave. At this point, all the 3 of them are surrounding me.
“Your father tried so hard to save you, but was as pathetic as that man you love so much.”
“You know nothing.” I said. I allowed the heat to consume my body.
“Your mother could have lived had she simply give you to us, but instead she tried to be a hero and it got her killed. What a stupid woman.”
“Do you even know who and what I am?”
“That’s a stupid question little one. You are to be my mate and my queen. We shall rule the world. Our son shall be King of all.”
I smiled up at him as I felt my internal fire consuming my eyes, begging to be released. I opened my mind too all our warriors. I didn’t know I could do it, but once I felt it, I knew I could speak with all of them.
“Get out of here. It’s about to get hot.” I commanded.
I just have to keep this jack ass busy until everyone is out.
“What of your mate?” I asked him.
For a moment, I saw his eyes soften and I felt his pain.
“She passed. My chosen Queen has failed to provide me with strong heirs. You though, you will not disappoint nor will you fail in your mission.”
I smiled. Oh, how he was right. Changing my eyes and my body language, I sensually walked up to him. Sauntering my hips back and forth. I allowed the front of my body to connect to his. Moving my lips to his ear I whispered. “Do you want this?”
I felt his hands go around my waist pulling me tight against him. I laced my arms around his neck.
“Your perfect.” Was all he had to say.
I jumped up in his lap with my legs wrapped around his waist. His hands moved to hold under my thighs. Ensuring my legs were nice and secure around him. I began kissing his neck.
“We are out.” Spoke Alpha Damascus.
With that, I allowed my internal fire to take hold outside my body. I knew the King could feel it as soon as he tried removing my body from his. His moans turned to screams of pain. The heat was more of a hot summer day, but everything around me was being consumed by my fire.
It didn’t take long for the King’s screams to cease and turn to silence. Once his body was ashes, I turned to look around. Flames consumed everything in its path.
The two men in the room with us seemed to have turned to ash as well. The flames were gentle and didn’t burn me. I was left untouched. I walked out of the building as it burned behind me. I could hear the screaming of women as they felt their King had passed. My heart hurt for them just a little bit, but I could provide them with too much humanity. They would rip my throat out the first chance they got.
When I finally made it out, I saw that all of our teams had gotten out safely. I shifted and took off. Nothing would make me happier than to get out of here. As I flew, I remember that Dante was hurt.
This pushed me to move faster as I swing around the bend and shot out of the cave we had entered from.
Regretfully, I shifted back. I can’t be flying the skies where humans could see me. Their hunters were still a threat.
Taking off at a sprint, I made it to the doctor in minutes. We had set up a med camp not far from the battle for any who were injured.
As I looked around for Dante, I was relieved to see many were hurt, but they would survive. I went from tent to tent and finally found Dante. Vatra was sitting with him, holding his hand, as tears washed her face.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
“He was hurt pretty badly. The wood nearly missed his heart, but it is going to take a while for him to get back up to full strength.” Tears continued to coat her cheeks as she stared at her mate.
The doctor came in and started checking Dante over again.
“Ladies, it’s going to take a while. He is currently in a coma. I don’t know how long it will take as I am accustomed to werewolves and Lycans. I will reach out to see if I can obtain more information.”
He looked at Vatra who was staring down at her mate. Then he looked up at me and I gave him a quick nod.
I could see Vatra’s cries ripping through her body, causing her to shake. I did the only thing I could do. I went and sat with her and hugged her.
“What if he never wakes up?”
“Hestia would never allow that to happen. He will come back to us.”
This made her cries louder. “I didn’t even get to tell him!”
I looked at her and waited for her to calm. Racking my brain, I couldn’t think as to what she was referring.
We sat in silence for hours. My own mind was consuming my attention. I only came back to the present when I felt Vatra move.
“Ember, I never got to tell him.”
“Tell him what hun?”
“I’m pregnant.”
That shocked me and worried me some. Dante was a good father to me, but I didn’t know if he could handle little ones that young.
“He will come back to us. You just keep telling him how much you love him and need him.” I felt these words weren’t enough comfort, but they were going to have to do. I was excited, I’m going to be an auntie. There was also hesitation in my mind. How would Dante reach?
Only Goddess knows, I guess.
