Samika's POV "Because we are mates, love" Devon says and I stand there shocked. My legs start to shake, my eyes blink on their own accord trying to mask the shock and surprise. I look around and see everyone is still kneeling around Devon and I. I look at Devon again. I just wanted to save Devon from his own father. And then ended up killing him. I didn't know that a werewolf law exists where the person who kills an Alpha is going to become the new Alpha. Moreover I didn't even realize I was killing Alpha Jerome until he laid down in his own puddle of blood. It all happened too fast and here I am, standing in the middle of a pack as their new Alpha. And what's more dramatic? Is the fact that Alpha Jerome's son, Devon is my mate. Oh f**k! He is my mate!!! My mate? I look around again to see Nyle kneeling before me too. The one I came to this pack for. The one I fell in love with. I didn't mind the fact that he is an Omega in this pack. I just came here to finish the process of Nyle getting shunned by the pack so we both could go back to the human land and live our lives in peace and away from the werewolf race. "How to get them to stand?" I ask Devon and I notice that he is holding my hand again. When did this happen? I pull my hand with force this time and glare at him. "You bloody don't have the right," I whisper and he throws his arms in the air as if to surrender. But he has a smirk on his face that I so badly want to wipe it off. "Just ask them to do whatever you want them to do," Devon shrugs and I look at the pack members again. They look like they want to raise their heads but are worried at the same time. Nyle told me that it's disrespectful of everyone despite their ranks to look Alpha in the eye. And now I am one. "You can all now stand up," I whisper but they don't even move an inch. I turn around and look back at Devon. It's evident that he is trying his best not to laugh. And I feel a little embarrassed but I don't show it. "Louder, love. Command. Don't ask," Devon says and I nod. "You can stand up," I say louder this time and they all stand on their feet in unison. "Now what?" I ask Devon again. I look at Nyle through the corner of my eye and even he isn't looking at me. He doesn't belong to this pack anymore. He got shunned for loving a human. Alpha Jerome broke ties with him just yesterday and today I emerged as Alpha of the pack. Talk about the f*****g timing! "Your pack. Your rules," Devon says again and I don't like how he is throwing it all on me. He should be helping me because I don't want any of this. But these people seem to be listening to either him or me. "You can all now do what you were supposed to do everyday," I scream and they all disperse. Do I have to scream like this everyday? What the f**k! Why am I thinking of this as my daily routine? I am going to talk to Devon and find my way out of here. I don't want this. I absolutely don't want this. I see everyone go away and do what they do everyday, and Nyle is walking towards us. Us as in Devon and me. I quickly turn around facing Devon because I don't know what to say to Nyle. This is all accidental but I wonder if he is going to trust me. "I need to talk to you," I tell Devon and he is smiling at me. Oh that stupid smile. "I can do more than that, love" he says and I roll my eyes. Nyle clears his throat but he doesn't lift his head up because it's not just me before him, but Devon too. And from what I know, Nyle is afraid of Alpha Jerome and Devon equally. "Nyle. Please wait for me. I'll be back and we shall leave," I say and look at Devon again. I tilt my head and he nods following me to the shore of the small pond. The place where we sat last night. "You can have this pack. I don't want this, Devon," I tell him but he shakes his head. "But you were the one who killed my father. The Alpha of this pack," he shrugs. "I know. But that was unintentional. Accidental," I say and I am growing irritated with each passing second. "Tell me as many adjectives as you want to, love. It is what it is. Moreover you are a werewolf, what are you afraid of?" He asked me. I stand there frozen. I am a werewolf? I don't even have a wolf. What is he even talking about? "I don't even have a wolf. I am wolfless and if I take this up, I am going to be the first ever wolfless Alpha" I say and shake my head in denial. "Regular wolves can't detect a werewolf gene like Alpha wolves do. Trust me when I say this, you are a werewolf." He tells me and takes a step forward, coming closer to me. I know I should be taking a step backwards but I don't. I am not sure if it's the mate bond that they call or whatever, but I don't feel threatened by this man at all. Not like everyone feels so. "Let's figure out why you didn't get your wolf already," he says and takes my hand in his again. I pull my hand back and he just chuckles a little. "Let's take it slow, love. You need to be in a pack to know who you are. When you know you have wolf qualities, how is it gonna help you in your human territory?" Devon asks me again. I know I shouldn't be doing this but my mind starts comparing Devon's every word to Nyle. Nyle knows I have a wolf gene. That I have wolf vision. But never really made any proper effort to really know who I am. What am I going to do on human territory when I don't even feel like one among them? "But I don't want to be the Alpha," I tell him. "Okay. How about a deal?" He asks me as he tilts his head slightly to his left. "Deal?" I ask him back. "Be the Alpha to this pack for a while. At least until I am ready to take it back. And then you are free to leave. Maybe this triggers your wolf," he says. Now that doesn't sound bad. Because he isn't asking me to stay here forever. Just until he takes it back and I get my wolf. I look at him again. He looks dangerously handsome. He is easily six foot two inches probably. His black hair is a mess. His hazel eyes are shining somehow. I know he is dangerous but the mate bond is making it harder. So I nod and start walking towards the pack before I give into his charm. Nyle asked me to stay away from Devon. Because he can be a monster whenever he wants. Once I meet Nyle, he holds my hand. But the touch isn't as exciting anymore. "No, Nyle" I tell him when he tries to walk me towards the truck. For us to leave. "No?" He asks in confusion. "We should stay here for a while," I whisper and he looks at me like I have grown two heads. "Are you out of your mind, Sam?" He asks me and when he looks behind me, he goes mute. He doesn't say a word. It doesn't take a genius to understand that Devon is behind me. "I am the Alpha now. Accidental or not. I should be cleaning my mess until someone takes it from me," I tell Nyle but he doesn't utter a single word. I pull my hand away from Nyle's grip and turn around to Devon again. I know the way to the pack house so I walk first, followed by two men. One who loves me and the one I am in love with.
