Twenty minutes later, Vic put the weights away. This early on a January morning, few people lingered in the hallway that led to the pool. The double doors barring entrance to the pool area were shut, but not locked; Vic entered easily enough. Only one swimmer pulled himself through the still water—Matt. Vic’s sneakers squealed on the tiles as he approached the shallow end, near the starting blocks used by the swim team. ::Guess who?:: he teased silently. ::Finally.:: In mid-stroke, Matt dove beneath the water, somersaulted against the bottom of the pool, and reversed direction to swim back toward Vic.
